  • 'GIFViewer' Enables Animated GIF Images in Apple's Photos Application

One of the downfalls to Apple's Photos application is that it doesn't support animated GIF image files. Instead, if you save one to your Camera Roll, it will be a still image when you try to look at it.

If you want to be able to see animated GIF image animations in your Photos application provided by Apple, then check out a new jailbreak tweak called GIFViewer by iOS developer Jerry En.

Once you install this tweak, you can save animated GIF images from the Internet to your Camera Roll and when you go to look at them, they will be animated as you would expect. The animations from the animated GIF image files are also clearly visible from image pickers in other applications that access your Camera Roll.

GIFViewer does not have any options to configure, and it is intended for iOS 7 devices only. If you want to give the tweak a try, it's available in Cydia's BigBoss repository for 99.

Apple, why isn't this in there by default?

Oh, right, because iBooks, the app designed by you, doesn't even know how to handle the double-sized call bar, which was also designed by you, anymore.

This tweak (or something similar) has been out for a very long time. Nonetheless, it's a great tweak and it's extremely useful if you're one of those people who goes on iFunny and uploads or downloads a bunch of GIFs.
