  • 'SpotiSearch' Lets You Search for Spotify Tracks Via SpotLight

When you search SpotLight for music, you'll get search results from Apple's Music application, but for some, that's just not good enough. I've been a Spotify user for a little over two years now, and I just don't use the Music application on my iOS devices, so I have really been in need of something that would further integrate Spotify, and not the Music application, into SpotLight for iOS 7.

I recently stumbled upon SpotiSearch in Cydia's changes tab, by iOS developer Tyler Hoffman. This tweak will let you search for Spotify tracks right from iOS 7's SpotLight feature. All you need to do is open SpotLight and start searching for artists, tracks, or albums, and you'll find search results that bring you to the Spotify application, as shown above.

SpotiSearch works for both regular Spotify users and Spotify Premium users. Those with Spotify Premium will get the ability to search for individual tracks and play them on demand, while those using the regular free Spotify will be able to search for and play radio stations based on the song that they search for.

The tweak adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you will need to configure a few of the tweak's options:

The first cell in the preferences pane will let you configure what shows up in SpotLight and what doesn't. You can hide or show search results for the local information you would usually see, and you'll also be able to hide or show the different kinds of search results that you would normally get from SpotiSearch. You can enable or disable artist search results, album search results, or track search results.

The second cell lets you change your country, and the cell below that lets you pick what happens when you tap on a search result. This is where it depends whether or not you're a Spotify Premium user. If you're a Spotify Premium user, you can choose the "Play Track" option and it'll play what you tap on, while if you're not a Spotify Premium user, you can choose the "Play Radio Station" feature and the tweak will force Spotify to play a radio station related to the song you searched for.

When you tap on track that showed up as a search result, it will begin playing immediately. When you tap on album or artist search results, Spotify will open and show the album page or the artist page.

We can definitely recommend SpotiSearch to anyone that uses Spotify on a daily basis. It offers an easy way to start playing music from the Home Screen for those that use Spotify rather than Apple's Music application, and it seems to work very well. If you want to give the tweak a try, it's available in Cydia's BigBoss repository for just 99. The tweak requires iOS 7.
