  • Evasi0n7 Version 1.0.6 Released With Official Support for Recently-released iOS 7.0.6

On Saturday, the evad3rs announced on Twitter that an updated version of the evasi0n7 jailbreak tool for iOS 7 was launched on the evasi0n Web site.

The new version, which is version 1.0.6, adds support for the recently-released iOS 7.0.6, which Apple released to the public to fix a serious SSL bug in the mobile operating system that could make it easy for an iOS device user to be susceptible to a man-in-the-middle attack.

With the latest version of evasi0n7, the jailbreak tool can now jailbreak iOS 7.0, 7.0.1, 7.0.2, 7.0.3, 7.0.4, 7.0.5, 7.0.6, and some 7.1 beta releases.

The latest version of iOS 7.1 beta patches the evasi0n7 jailbreak, so if you want to get to the latest jailbreakable firmware, it is advised that you upgrade to iOS 7.0.6 sometime before iOS 7.1 is released to the public, as iOS 7.1 will not be susceptible to the evasi0n7 jailbreak.

Evasi0n7 version 1.0.6 can be downloaded via the download links below:

I did this today and kind of f***** myself over. I recommend it to anyone who isn't on 7.0.6 to back up, restore from back up, and rejailbreak on 7.0.6 so that you are as safe as possible. I forgot to do a couple things and lost about 50% of my stuff so don't forget to double check that you have absolutely everything backed up before you lose as much as I did.

R u referring to jailbreak tweak stuff? Because hitting the BackUp Now button in iTunes backs up every ounce of data on your phone non-jailbreak related. Just curious what types of data you lost.

They´re really keeping up with the jailbreak releases. Thanks so much for the hard work of the devs!

When I updated to 7.0.6 evasi0n was reading my phone as still jailbroken. Before that I backed up my Cydia stuff using OpenBackup. Once I updated to 7.0.6 I made a full backup on my computer and then entered DFU mode (a tip I got from someone on Twitter) and did a factory restore. Then restored with the backup I made, ran evasi0n, then downloaded OpenBackup and clicked restore. Easiest method, IMO.

I will advise though...the ONLY thing OpenBackup didn't backup was a icon layout I had saved with HomescreenDesigner, so I don't know what else it may not save. But it literally backed up everything else. I used that because I don't want to pay $9.99 for PKGbackup or whatever it's called.

I kind of hate this middle period after a new iOS release. It's awesome when a big upgrade happens and a JB finally comes out, but then we start to get these smaller releases every so often and we wait to see if the JB will work, if it does you have to upgrade and JB all over again. You do this until Apple finally releases a version that has patched the exploit and you stay on that usually until the next big iOS update, then the cycle begins again. And you don't want to wait too long to upgrade to the smaller updates because Apple might stop signing them...it just gets annoying having to backup your stuff, restore your phone, upgrading, putting your stuff back on, JB, and getting your phone back to how you had it before with all your tweaks. Oh well! I love having a JB phone so of course I'll keep doing it, I just read PokemonDesigner's post and it made me think about all that, I understand exactly what he's saying lol!

Anyway! Thanks for the JB update, it's very much appreciated!

You do not have to restore to each new little Apple update. 7.0.5 's update only had to do with a few Asian phones. And 7.0.6 fixes a little thing with SSL for email accounts that use that.. Nothing about real functionality issues. Like the upgrade from 6.1.1 to 6.1.2 fixed a major Exchange server email bug that "I" was having trouble with - so that one I restored to. But don't get in the habit of restoring to every firmware unless the feature it fixes affects your daily phone use. "Newer" doesn't necessarily mean better or more stable. I'm still at 7.0.4 and rock stable.

The evasi0n jailbreak won't allow OTA updating. Only possible to restore thru iTunes.

NewD as he always lets us know does his research before posting.

Well not this time. This is dangerous advice he is giving out because he hasn't researched what he is commenting on.

Yeah "a little thing" is actually a major thing. Pod2g tweeted yesterday that basically if you are using a website with https (mainly sites that you pay for stuff on) then it can easily be intercepted by a middle man.

So yeah update to the latest firmware on whatever your device is.

      Public service announcement over

Why isn't there any info on ModMyi about just how big of a security threat not updating to 7.0.6 poses?

As usual - this time I also did my research -consulting with 4 different devs and an iOS specialist friend I have. Though the bug is "nasty" as Gunny states.. It will NOT affect all or even many of us in a 'instability producing' way. Read source material out there and decide for yourself if this bug is "nasty" enough to warrant a restore.

Your choice. I will not be restoring and have zero fear.

      Public rebuttal over..

If you're happy with someone possibly intercepting your supposedly secure connections not just in mail as NewD stated but in safari and any app that uses https then follow his advice. If you want to be safe and avoid the possibility of that happening update.

Read pod2g twitter timeline. It will give you an indication of how nasty this bug could be if exploited by someone.

I generally agree with Gunny on this statement.. And I'm reading some new stuff this morning - that is increasing my concern.

All the devs are recommending to update here. It's a nasty bug that potentially affects a lot more than just safari or email. Giant PITA to do all this just for one line of code that Apple messed up, but having said that, I'm extremely grateful to Apple for the fact they did release this patch in 7.0.6. They could easily have left this exclusively for 7.1, which would have left all us jailbreakers royally screwed. I can't get over the magnitude of this one. It genuinely seems that Apple has some small amount of respect for jailbreaking. Kudos to Apple (if I read this one correctly).

P.S. Backup, sync & PkgBackup (Gueye's package from Cydia) will ease the pain of the update.

The more I'm reading today - the more I'm discovering my early conclusions, though from sources who know way more than me, was underestimating the problem. Glad Gunny and others spoke up.

But I've hear tell that PWN24K's patch will still work without a full restore and rejailbreak? But his cydia repo doesn't have the ssl patch anymore.. Any thoughts?

If you haven't learned by now, there are always exploits and bugs and such in every version. There is no way around it. 7.1 will be updated as well with bug fixes and patches as well as every subsequent update. I've come to accept it and live with it.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a jailbreak security patch (obviously it would need to come from a trusted source). It kind of feels like overkill, re-downloading millions of lines of code, to fix just one thats's bad. Or at least, the only one that's known to be bad ;-)

You should read up on this bug first, before deciding to skip the 7.0.6 update. This one's a little more serious than average!

Yeah I am honestly leaning more towards updating. You guys got me.
