  • Tim Cook Says Apple Will Enter New Product Categories

This one isn't a rumor, folks. An admission straight from the big guy himself, Apple CEO Tim Cook said last night that the iDevice maker will enter new categories with yet-to-be revealed devices.

Music to the ears of investors and analysts who have persistently badgered Apple to innovate and expand the scope of its products, Cook wouldn't speculate on which devices or categories Apple would be working to cultivate. For now, of course, the pledge alone is enough to keep the innovation critics at bay.

"There will be new categories," Cook reveals, but curtailing the admission there. "We're not ready to talk about it, but we're working on some really great stuff."

As MMi reported last night, Apple announced that it is repurchasing of $14 billion in shares of AAPL in a move to illustrate that the company retains exceeding confidence in the opportunities for growth and expansion that lie ahead.

"It means that we are betting on Apple," Cook said of the share buyback. "It means that we are really confident on what we are doing and what we plan to do," Cook says. "We're not just saying that. We're showing that with our actions."

I think it's obviously going to be the iWatch. We've heard nothing about new content agreements which we know is what is holding up the HDTV.

I believe the article said 'categories' with an "s". So yes, that would include a new iPad model.

How about any iDevice less than 100 bux?

I just got an offer from radio shack, I give them my 64 gig iPhone 4S, they give me a 16 gig 5C.

I doubt if anyone with sense would do it/ maybe for 8 gig iPhone 4

Icar was a good shot. Think that was Scotty.

IBrain? There is no telling tho. The wearable I watch could be a new category. But there is no telling. Ha

Could be a thermostat / alarm intuitive system for a home? They did have an "S" on categories from
      Cooks comment yea?

I wouldn't want them to do a watch or a TV. But I have no problem with them doing a watch since it wouldn't effect other products. A TV, on the other hand, could significantly impact their Apple TV. I would never want a TV with built in "smart" functions, and if Apple did a TV, the Apple TV as we know it would definitely be impacted (read: gimped and limited on features)

Does auto count was a new category he's mentioning even though it's already kind of known?

If they release a new apple tv like you described they could call it the "iTv" so maybe it won't destroy the reputation of the apple tv. Who knows..
