  • Apple TV Update Delivers NBA League Pass and MLB TV

Not to be lost in the shuffle today among Apple's bustling updates/releases like iOS 4.3 and Safari 5.0.4, Apple TV also received a software update (to version 4.2,) on Wednesday. What we have, among the new features, is the arrival of live streaming games for NBA League Pass and MLB TV subscribers.

Consequently, Apple TV users can now watch all the basketball and baseball their hearts can handle. Of course, both services remain subscription based, just like Netflix, which comes preloaded on Apple TV but requires activation via an existing account. Nonetheless, the fusion of Apple TV with a major sports platform represents a bit of a curve-ball to some users who remain pleasantly surprised by the evolutionary steps of Apple TV.

According to Apple, today's software update also delivers:

    • AirPlay for apps: Use AirPlay to wirelessly stream video from apps and Safari on your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
    • Netflix Dolby Digital 5.1: Enjoy Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound when watching Netflix movies and TV shows
    • New slideshow themes: View photos with the new Scrapbook, Photo Mobile, and Holiday Mobile slideshow themes.
    • Improved on-screen keyboard: Search and enter names and passwords more easily with the redesigned on-screen keyboard.

If only we could get the NFL package with this too. Lol. I know it never will but I can have hope. I'm tired of direct tv's hold on all NFL games

make sure you your new macbook pro is authorized for your itunes account.
open up itunes, go to store at the top, then select authorize this computer. then see if apple tv can find your stuff properly

Well consider that the NFL is getting about $15 billion for this years broadcast rights. If they sold an average subscription of $100 to half of American households (~65m), that would only be $6.5 billion (minus Apple's 30% lol).

How does that work anyway, with the league normally selling broadcasting rights to the networks, who then in turn sell advertising? On the ATV subscription do you still see the normal TV ads?

so how much does NBA league pass cost? is it the full $79 or $29 (mobile price)?

I'm guessing you would need to have paid the full normal price, not the mobile one. Not sure though.

Its $99 right now I believe but they will drop it down to $49 for the last 6 weeks of the season.

It seems to be on Apple's end. But a LOT of people are having this issue.
I'm having the same issue. I love the look and the Netflix/MLBTV(!!) function, but it doesn't work well enough for me. Ironically, the 1st generation works much more smoothly for me. I pray this update fixes things.
