  • Samsung Wants Olympians to Hide Apple's Logo during Opening Ceremonies

Samsung appears to be giving away a free Galaxy Note 3 to every athlete competing in the 2014 Winter Olympics but those who receive one are reportedly required to ensure that the Apple logo is nowhere to be seen if they use an iPhone to record events at the opening ceremonies.

This isnít a surprise as Olympians seem to be increasingly turning to smartphones to capture photos and video of the festivities and the handsets are often caught by television cameras covering the event. Samsung wants to ensure its brand is the only one seen according to a report from the folks over at Slashgear. Samsungís plan was outed by several members of the Swiss Olympic team who noticed the guidelines inserted into the athletesí gift bags.

The Olympics provide an unparalleled advertising opportunity with television coverage spanning the globe. Although the figures for 2014 are unknown, it is thought that Samsung spent at least $100 million to sponsor the 2012 Summer Olympics in London for example.

Yeah, let's have our country's athletes carry around foreign phones while we block our the American company's logo. Makes sense.

Might as well wear a Korean uniform at the opening ceremony.

I'm pretty sure Samsung has officially "passed the disgrace line." This is petty and pathetic.

The athletes should cut out stickers to fit into the bite mark of the apple logo to make it look like a whole apple... making it extremely obvious it's Apple but at the same time making it not the actual Apple logo. Satisfy Samsung, get a free tablet, and show your smartphone allegiance all at once. Have your cake and eat it too!

You do realize that our iPhones are not made in the US, right?
If you want a real American phone, your best option is a Motorola.

Doesn't seem entirely unreasonable since htey are "giving" the teams free phones. Then again, what does one do if they don't agree. mail the phone back to Samsung?

Also, interesting that they only target Apple in this condition and no other competitors.

Do you realize that the Motorola is only assembled in the USA? 80-90% of the parts are made elsewhere. Get your facts right before posting! Lol Smh...
