  • Rumors Claim the iPhone 6 Will Sport a 10+ Megapixel Camera with f/1.8 Aperture

Sources from Taiwan’s industrial chain claim the next-gen iPhone will have at least a 10-megapixel camera with an aperture of f/1.8, reports Chinese website IT168. This would be an obvious improvement over the current iPhone 5S, which has an 8-megapixel camera with a narrower f/2.2 aperture. The report also claims that Apple will change the filter used on the iPhone 6 camera, replacing the hybrid IR filter used on the iPhone 5S with a resin lens filter manufactured by Japanese company JSR.

For those of you who don’t know, JSR is known for its ARTON Resins, which are used in digital and video cameras with CMOS image sensors. JSR claims its ARTON filters are lighter and thinner than comparable IR filters and take clearer images due to the resin’s ability to minimize the color shifts of CMOS image sensors.

The report from the Chinese website IT168 contradicts another report from The China Post that claims Apple will continue to use a 8-megapixel sensor in the next iPhone. According to the analysts from Nomura Securities, the camera module in the iPhone 6 instead will see improvements in other areas such as optical image stabilization.
We’ll have to wait and see which of the information turns out to be true.

I wish Apple would make the camera app more like Camera+, Sphere, and ProCamera all in one. The camera specs bump is nice but more improvement is needed to the app.. iphoneography !!!!

The camera app is GREAT right now.. I had Note 3 and it was **** to use it.. So many things you will never use.. If you are fan of ****** camera apps, just download Camera+ and others.. Maybe only thing missing in the stock camera is timer.. But not a big deal..
About the post: They will make iPhone 6 with f/1.8, so they can make 6S with 2.2.. This is how Apple works :-)

      How so?

F1.8 does allow more light in, therefore creating shorter exposure times and less motion blur. However, F1.8 also has a shallower depth of field, meaning you will likely have more shots out of focus.

Saying f1.8 is better than f2.2 is like saying a sedan is better than a pick-up truck. They each have their purpose.

I completely disagree. Apple has one of the best autofocus software ever made, and the difference here is only 1 stop. Depth is highly sought after in both photography and in video. Apple's autofocus makes it possible for a grandmother to shoot her kids and a pro create stunning images.

You say you disagree, but you said nothing to refute my comment...except possibly that we're only talking about a 1 stop difference. You simply pointed out additional aspects of photography.

It may have been a stretch for me to use the sedan/pick-up analogy. Comparing f1.8 to f2.2 is probably more like comparing a sedan to a midsize car. They're almost the same...but not quite. In either case, I still maintain that you cannot simply say f1.8 is better than f2.2.

Thank you Mr. Literal. Perhaps I should have said, "You cannot accurately say f1.8 is better than f2.2."

The people who say with conviction that f1.8 is better than f2.2 probably also believe that 12 megapixels is always better than 10 megapixels. In other words, they probably are not well versed in photography.
