  • Sony Granted Permission to Subpoena Log of IP Addresses That Visited Geohot's Website

The saga of Geohot continues. This week Federal Magistrate Joseph Spero officially authorized Sony to subpoena Geohot's web provider to secure the official log of IP addresses that visited GeoHot.com between January 2009 and today.

The reason given for the controversial decision to give Sony access to the log is that the data will provide an accurate picture of the extent to which the defendant distributed jailbreak files. Additionally, the information will help determine whether Sony should sue George "Geohot" Hotz in New Jersey or San Francisco. NJ is Geohot's home state, but Sony contends that San Francisco is where the files were most downloaded.

Compounding the situation further is the reference in court documents to Sony's desire to similarly obtain any and all tweets that Geohot released with regard to his PS3 hack. Sony also wants user information on the individuals that posted comments on Geohot's blog as well those who viewed his video on YouTube, which demonstrated jailbreak tools in use.

At this time, it doesn't appear that Sony is aiming to cast a wide net and seek legal action against everyone who used Geohot's jailbreak. Rather, Sony is arguing that it simply wants to know how far and how deep the "damage" goes. Of course, this is merely what Sony is saying at the moment. Ultimately, it isn't known just how many people could be targeted by the consumer electronics giant in their ongoing quest to scare the living daylights out of jailbreakers everywhere.

More breaking news: Spread it like wild fire! 3.56 is about to get owned! CPU Exploit - one step closer to METLDR

"I know by releasing this exploit ill probably be taken to court or sued but **** sony they can go to hell all i care for what there doing to us hackers ill fight until the last min i got of my life if i have to for the right of the people."

time to explain this now listen up

i know you all remember the exploit with ram and so on back in 3.15
well your going look for the 'CELL RESET LINE' and that going be where the exploit is
you know how the small 60ms or ns i dont remember thing sent to ps3 for the read and write of the ram ?

well use line send that and connect it to the cell reset line. ( FIND IT IN DOC )
and ground on outside of case and the example of what can be done with this is a cold reset which still has acess to the memory from gameos - dont let this die out people im taking a big risk by giving you all this information

      - thanks to mitchy my personal hard drive - note i did not upload the documents and if requested ill remove the links

Example of what can be done with this --
untouched memory on cold boot full access to lv2 and all game os memory

for this exploit your going need a leaked service pdf which is below

      EDITED:

I'm sure this has been mentioned before, and its probably one of GeoHot's arguments in all of this, but...Who the F**K is Sony to say what people can and can't do with a Sony product that they purchased with their own hard earned money? I mean seriously, way to be sore losers because your security got cracked. Sony needs to cry themselves a river, build themselves a bridge out of their own crushed egos, and get the f**k over it.

In my book Sony is just about equal with Metallica now. (ref. Napster incident)

GeoHot is the man, not to mention is he only in his 20's and doing things that far exceed what the average man would accomplish within his entire life. Sony is being insanely anal by trying to harass this poor kid who clearly has an overwhelmingly great god given talent to reverse engineer amazing platforms like the software OS's used on the iPhone and the PS3. Instead of being rewarded for his accomplishments in my opinion, he is being sued and forced to face legal trouble because of his passion for his work which is one of the main ways the United States has gotten to where it is and people have become so successful. George Hotz is an idle in my eyes. The fact that he is being put through all this garbage really frustrates me. As a fellow computer science enthusiast/nerd (stereotypically) it is a great pain to see a man that has done so much for the public's desires and wants to be attacked in such a ridiculous way as Sony is attempting. As a fellow New Jerseyian (?) I will be pumping my fist proudly with my jailbroken iPhone and continuing to support the movement. IF I'M PAYING $350.00 FOR A PS3 I'LL DO WHAT I WANT WITH IT. Sony is infringing on our rights as Americans. GeoHot is a hero. Check out GeoHotz freestyle - lick this Sony ;p ~

Right heres my 2 cents worth.

When ps3 came out I bought one, and since then I have only ever played drakes enchanted, now that was 4 years ago ish. Its a fat running 3.1 or something like that so a very HACKABLE machine now.

Around the same time I bought my first 360 which got hacked straight away and I ran backup discs for a little while but the novelty wore off because microsoft were activly trying to stop people, which they did for a while but at no point did they try any of the nonsense SONY are trying. They just kept providing a top notch service and continued to try to secure their system.

Well now we are 4 years plus down the line and I can confirm that since I have owned probably 6 xboxs, admittedly they werent built the best in the beggining but microsoft stood by there product and supported it through some dark times. Well I stopped hacking my xbox about 1 year after starting and since have bought legit games and peripherals. So in my house we have 2 xboxs one for family with that wonderful Kinect device for all sorts of fun and one for the serious gamer in me.

I game daily and spend alot of my gaming time onlive, if im not gaming then id be watching a movie through my xbox.

The PS3 maybe a little bit of a better machine in comparison to the 360 but the 360 is a far superior gaming machine/network.

The saying goes "You get what you pay for in life" Well psn = free and xbox live = cost but I would much rather pay for the service I get from onlive because its worth spending on. In fact I have a family account which I think is another step forward for microsoft.

So I suppose my point is that I can hack something like the 360 but CHOOSE not to as the service is worth every penny (ish)
but the ps3 has sat on my shelf for 4+ years and has been a total waste of money, which has gone into SONYS coffers.

I now Vow that it will get hacked as a matter of importance and will probably get sold as a hacked machine so that I can replenish said coffers.

SONY I have 3 young kids at very vulnerable ages so when I drum into them what SONY stands for they will grow up thinking like that and will probably never support your dictatorship.
I will never buy another SONY product which includes bluray (hope LG take a good chuck of cash from ya).

My kids will learn geohot and likes = GOOD and SONY= KNOBS

I bet sony were laughing when HD dvd lost but if you look back now and compare the format to the gaming market I think Microsoft had the last laugh.

      HDDVD<Bluray, Xbox360>PS3, Kinect>Move

      2/3 aint Bad Microsoft.

Microsot = Innovation and Sony = a Stupid mic looking thing called the MOVE DOH. Sony your day was PS2

Ok so maybe more than 2 Cents worth.

p.s A note about IP address, if your IP changes then thats a dynamic but that doesnt mean that it wasnt logged at your connection for said day, wheather it has been assigned elsewhere or not.
