  • 'Gesture Music Controls' Replaces Apple's Button-based Music Controls With Gestures

Forget about tapping on virtual buttons. If you're using a touch screen device, you might as well migrate to swipe gestures. At least, that's the idea behind a new jailbreak tweak called Gesture Music Controls by iOS developer Pat Sluth.

Gesture Music Controls replaces all of the button-based music controls in iOS with swipe gestures system-wide. It removes the play, pause, forward, and back buttons from the Lock Screen, Control Center, and even the Music application itself. Instead, you'll find yourself using swipe and tap gestures to find your way around your Music library.

To play and pause a song, you need only tap once on the name of the song, whether you're on the Lock Screen, in Control Center, or in the Music application. It'll bounce when you tap it, letting you know that the tap was registered. To move between music in your music library, as the forward and back buttons would let you do, you will just swipe left or right on the song name and the song will change to either the next or previous song depending on the gesture you used. If you're in the Music application, tapping and holding on the album artwork for one second will bring up the built-in song rating system so you can rate the song.

Notably, you can also swipe up from the name of the song from either the Lock Screen, Control Center, or from the Music application to bring up a share sheet. From this share sheet, you can share what you're listening to via social networks and more:

Gesture Music Controls is a nice addition to any iOS device that is used for listening to music. It also works with third-party music applications if you're going to use the tweak from the Lock Screen or Control Center, but because third-party music applications are all different, the tweak doesn't support gestures from within the applications themselves. If you want to give Gesture Music Controls a try, you will find it for 99 in Cydia's BigBoss repository. The tweak works on all iOS 7 iPhones, iPod touches, and iPads.

You can check out the developer's demonstration video of the tweak below:

I would love this, if the dev left the buttons in there. I love swipe gestures, but would still love to have the actually buttons still there. (future update?)

Five out of five and it doesn't have a control panel to adjust the settings? Is the reviewer friends with the dev?

You can get all this functionally for FREE, without jailbrake. Just download Listen app from AppStore. Best music player, elegantly implemented gesture based control, with a beautiful uncluttered interface!

So...it's basically a rip off of the Car Tunes app in the App Store?

Finally somebody brought this to iOS 7! I loved this tweak before and I have been waiting for it, thank you. Now, if I could only get a way to cancel the Lockscreen time out while plugged into power, I would have the perfect music player for my car. What's taking so long LockInfo?

Oh and to you haters complaining this rips off existing "App Store" apps, this tweak is a jailbreak and therefore is not crippled with limited functionality of controlling only the stock "Music" app.

Thanks again to Pat Sluth, I will gladly fork over a buck for this universal control feature.

What are you looking to customize?

It gets the 5/5 because it works perfectly and seamlessly system-wide. We experienced zero bugs with the tweak, and it was well-implemented.
