At the end of December, we showed you Menu Button Emulator
, a free jailbreak tweak that put a software home button on your iOS device's display so you could tap it to emulate pressing the home button. It was the perfect jailbreak tweak for someone that had a broken home button on their iOS device.
The same developer, Vatsal Manot, has just released another jailbreak tweak called Power Button Emulator
, which as the name suggests, puts a software version of your power button on your iOS device's display that you can tap on to emulate pressing the power button at the top of your iOS device.
Menu Button Emulator's tappable button resembled the home button in size and shape, and Power Button Emulator resembles the power button in size and shape. You can see what it looks like in the screenshots above.
Power Button Emulator can be dragged to any location on your display, so you can move it wherever you're comfortable with it. If it gets in the way, you can drag it somewhere else.
When you tap on the button, you'll get kicked to your Lock Screen. This is a little different than what we expected the tweak to do. Pressing the power button on the top of your device not only kicks you to your Lock Screen, but it also shuts the display off. With Power Button Emulator, all that happens is you get kicked to the Lock Screen. If you want the display to turn off, you'll have to wait for the timeout period for the device to fall asleep on its own. It would be nice to see in a future update for the tweak to shut off the display as well, but in the mean time, it at least lets you lock your device when your power button is broken.
If you want to give Power Button Emulator a try, it's available for free in Cydia's BigBoss repository.
