  • 'Power Button Emulator' Adds a Software Power Button to Your iOS Device

At the end of December, we showed you Menu Button Emulator, a free jailbreak tweak that put a software home button on your iOS device's display so you could tap it to emulate pressing the home button. It was the perfect jailbreak tweak for someone that had a broken home button on their iOS device.

The same developer, Vatsal Manot, has just released another jailbreak tweak called Power Button Emulator, which as the name suggests, puts a software version of your power button on your iOS device's display that you can tap on to emulate pressing the power button at the top of your iOS device.

Menu Button Emulator's tappable button resembled the home button in size and shape, and Power Button Emulator resembles the power button in size and shape. You can see what it looks like in the screenshots above.

Power Button Emulator can be dragged to any location on your display, so you can move it wherever you're comfortable with it. If it gets in the way, you can drag it somewhere else.

When you tap on the button, you'll get kicked to your Lock Screen. This is a little different than what we expected the tweak to do. Pressing the power button on the top of your device not only kicks you to your Lock Screen, but it also shuts the display off. With Power Button Emulator, all that happens is you get kicked to the Lock Screen. If you want the display to turn off, you'll have to wait for the timeout period for the device to fall asleep on its own. It would be nice to see in a future update for the tweak to shut off the display as well, but in the mean time, it at least lets you lock your device when your power button is broken.

If you want to give Power Button Emulator a try, it's available for free in Cydia's BigBoss repository.

Hmm, reading this makes me really miss QuickLock 2.

If any dev is reading this, I challenge you to make QuickLock 3. Basically it was just an icon on the springboard that locked your device when pressed. It saved me lots of mechanical wear on my lock button over the years!

My power button did break on my iPhone 4S.
So I set up Activator to lock the screen upon swiping down from the top of the screen. Works wonderfully, I don't even miss the Lock button

Or......you can use Activator and assign an action to, say, 1 finger slide from screen bottom left side while on springboard and that action is, ahem, take a guess.....simulate a press of sleep button. The same goes for actions for home button simulations to minimize wear.

      Thank you.

Nope. That is what I've used for my virtual home/sleep buttons since iOS5. But now I have VirtualHome and I still use activator to lock the device.

Um help.. I know this is unrelated to the tweak but I have a jailbroken iPhone 5 and everytime I open my photos or Instagram or camera the apps crash immediately. Even in safe mode. And when I take a screenshot my phone resprings. And whenever I'm in an app that is working and go to upload a picture the app immediately crashes. It's irritating and I don't know where to find out how to fix this problem

Do you have Slo-mo tweak installed? It happened to me when I installed it and try to set the framerate to higher than 60...

I did have the tweak installed and it was at 60 Fps by default but even with that tweak uninstalled I still continue to run into the same problem..

Did you also removed Burst mode tweak? Both are related.

No interrest > AssistiveTouch make this tweak completely useless
