  • iOS 7.1 Beta 4 Reportedly Patches the evasi0n7 Jailbreak

Apple's Monday seed of iOS 7.1 beta 4 to developers reportedly patches the evasi0n7 iOS 7 untethered jailbreak, Tweets well-known iOS hacker ih8sn0w.

According to the hacker, iOS 7.1 beta 4 closes a kernel exploit used by the evasi0n7 jailbreak tool, but the new seed does not fix a code-signing bug used by the evasi0n7 jailbreak tool.

Because the patch for the evasi0n7 jailbreak was implemented in a beta pre-release of the software, we do not expect evasi0n7 to be updated to support iOS 7.1 beta 4, even though evasi0n7 was recently updated to support iOS 7.1 beta 1,2, and 3. The only reason that iOS 7.1 beta 1, 2 and 3 were supported by evasi0n7 is because all of the vulnerabilities were still existent in those firmwares.

Any type of additional work on a jailbreak would have to wait until a public release of iOS 7.1, where a final version of the software is released to the public. Wasting exploits on beta software is generally not a good idea, as Apple will promptly fix the issue in a future beta. Apple is much slower to patch jailbreaks in public software releases.

If you're happily jailbroken on iOS 7.0-7.0.4, we suggest staying on your firmware and enjoying the benefits, as there is no real benefit to iOS 7.1 or any of its betas. If you're on iOS 6 and you're contemplating upgrading to iOS 7, you might want to do so soon before Apple releases iOS 7.1 to the public and stops signing jailbreakable versions of iOS 7.

I'm still on 6.1 on my 4. Been debating on whether or not to update to ios 7. I will probably stay on 6.1 until the next phone comes out.

My 4 runs well on ios7, you will lose Apps and not be able to use ios 7 apps if you do not upgrade. We will probably be stuck with ios 7 for 12 to 18 more months

Apple can patch whatever they want since its their OS/product. They can fix any bugs they see fit at anytime. Apple just cant go after people for exploiting those bugs etc

      I gave up on JB.

If apple ios was more open like Android, I'd buy one but until that time Apple can take a running jump.

Jailbreaking is legal in that you won't be prosecuted for it unless you somehow violate copyright in the process..

With that said.. Apple is still within their right to fix known vulnerabilities in their operating system that some hacker might use to compromise the security of your device.

The jailbreak teams are finding flaws to exploit.. Apple is really obligated to fix bugs in in ios .. and in doing so, they also block the jailbreak at the same time as a side effect of fixing those bugs.

I honestly don't think apple cares whether or not people jailbreak their devices.. they borrow ideas from the community all the time, but they still need to fix bugs or they are being irresponsible

I am happy with 7.0.4 and love the new tweaks so I am not planning to update.

Hey Apple, keep that jailbreak patching update and see you in September (iPhone 6 & iOS8).

Its patched because its a exploit that can be hacked by others to steal your info. All software has exploits and the dev team may find one in 7.1 but it takes a lot of work now since Apple has improved and closed so many usable exploits

If your happy with JB 7.0.4 like many of us, I suggest installing noupdate in cydia, this will prevent OTA updating but not Itunes, that needs to be turned off for updates.
noupdate and software update killer "tweaks" have not been updated for iOS 7 and are NOT needed for 7.0.4.

      Jailbreak QA

After running and installing evasi0n 7 (ver. 1.0.4), the OTA daemon is automatically disabled ;-)

Several iPhone 4 units and iPhone 5 running 7.0.4 with evasi0n7 and I am super happy!
(Just have to customize iOS 7 a bit on the 4, and turn off battery and process hogs)

Skipped iOS 6.xx altogether because 6.xx ran far worse than 5.1.1 overall on the older iPhone 4 hardware.

Now in heaven on iOS 7, fully jailbroken on several phones (4 and 5) and the newest iPad Air and iPad Mini 2 128GB on T-Mobile with free for life 200MB data!

Happiest time yet with Apple devices!!!

Yes it's legal but it doesn't mean that they don't have a right to patch it. They own the license to the iOS firmware meaning they can do what they please with it so long as it's legal.

Thanks guys. After hearing the success you two are having on a 4 with 7 I will go ahead and update within the next couple of days.
