  • Apple Helps Mobile Social, Messaging Apps Reach New Heights

By the close of 2013, mobile messaging and social apps had reached an unprecedented degree of adoption across the world's mobile ecosystems, but primarily in iOS.

On Monday, Flurry reported that mobile usage grew 115% last year. Messaging apps are credited with helping to drive the majority of this tremendous growth witnessed over the last twelve months.

Every single app category has shown growth over the last twelve months, Flurry said.

Utilities and Productivity apps posted 150% growth in use year-over year, as smartphones and tablets became personal computers and productivity apps, such as Evernote and Quip, gained sophistication and adoption. Even Gaming, which was feared to reach saturation levels in 2013, posted 66% year-over-year growth in use.
In addition to the explosion in app downloads in the social and messaging space, their usage was equally as monumental. On December 31st, 2013 at 11:59 pm, Flurry Analytics purportedly tracked a record 4.7 Billion app sessions in a single day, "for a total of 1.126 Trillion sessions for the whole year."

Really? And where is the proof that Apple is the "primary" factor behind this? I don't see a shred of that in the article.
