  • This Piece of iPhone History Comes Up Short in eBay Auction

Although eBay has played host to a number of high-profile actions of Apple relics in the past, the latest didn't fetch the usual mega-bucks.

What we are told is a "rare" prototype of Apple's first-generation iPhone sold for just $1,500 on eBay.

The Australia-based eBay user in possession of the device raked in considerably less than many sellers have earned through the auction of other early-run Apple products, let alone prototypes.

The device itself "is in near mint condition, apart from a very tiny mark in the back," the seller described, adding that "it passes all tests perfectly." Nonetheless, the working prototype sold for much less than many pre-release Apple product components have fetched online in the past.

How the seller obtained the device is unclear, as is the reason eBay didn't pull the auction before its completion. In previous years, the auction platform has been known to curtail auctions involving operational propotypes from leading tech makers.

The fact that it is running SkankPhone is a pretty good indicator its a true prototype
