  • 'Snoverlay' is a Festive New Jailbreak Tweak By Ryan Petrich – Happy Holidays!

It’s Christmas, and the snow, for those of you in locations cold enough for it, won’t be going away any time soon!

You can get into the holiday season with a new free jailbreak tweak by iOS developer Ryan Petrich dubbed Snoverlay. This tweak will place an animated raining snowflake overlay over every interface that you open on your iOS device, as shown above.

The snowflakes rain down whether you're on the lock screen, on the home screen, in an application, or in Notification Center.

The tweak runs the smoothest on newer dual-core A5+ devices, but will run good enough on single-core A4 devices and still offer rather smooth animations at the cost of slightly sluggish performance in applications. Newer devices won't experience this "sluggishness."

This isn't the first time Petrich has made a fun jailbreak tweak solely for holiday purposes; he also made a free tweak called UpsideDown for April Fools day. Snoverlay isn’t on a public repository; it’s only available on Ryan Petrich’s beta repository. To download it, you’ll need to go into Cydia:
    1. tap on the Manage tab
    2. tap on the Sources button
    3. tap on the Edit button
    4. tap on the Add button
    5. enter the following URL and then tap Add Source:
      PHP Code:

    Requirements: iOS 6.0+

It looks awesome but a lot of keyboard presses are not registered; I think tapping on a flake blocks the key.

I reported this issue to the dev. Anyone else experience this?

I did read and installed it and it doesn't work. iOS 7.0.4 on iPhone 5c. If I didn't read how was I able to install it? It would respring after install and no options anywhere. Oh well Christmas is over but be nice to try it out if it worked

Yeah, would be great if it could be isolated to the lock or home screen, but EVERY screen is just a little too much.

Yes, it's driving me crazy, but the snow makes me happy to look at. Couldn't delete it..

Yeah snow interferes with typing but it looks too cool. Wish it had a toggle tho.

Worked great on my 5, even in apps, but could actually see battery draining away before my eyes. Worth it for Xmas day, plugged in, then uninstalled.

Slows my i5 way down, makes texting and general interface sloppy and unresponsive. Uninstalled but loved that it worked everywhere. With options for when and at within which apps it may background this tweak would be 5 star. Assuming it would free up memory enough to allow candy crush to play at its normal pace.

HELP! l installed this on my iP4 running IOS 6.1.3, and my phone is nearly bricked. I saw this in Cydia, there was no description of what it is, but since it's from Ryan Petrich I figured I would try it. I already had miWeather Animated lockscreen and Atom installed, and now it Snoverlay installed, I can't enter my phone, swiping Atom does nothing, using a standard left to right swipe does nothing. I can't power off my phone using the power off button, nothing appears at the top of the screen to swipe power off. All I can do is manually respring by holding power button and home button.

I have an iMac running OSX 10.6.8. Using DiskAid, at first DiskAid could read the drive over wifi, but to see the folders in "var" I had to respring, then to see the folders in "stash" I had to respring. Finally got to "Themes" but no folder for Snoverlay. So I don't even know where Snoverlay installed.

Connecting by USB cable to my iMac, iTunes doesn't show the phone, so I can't restore from yesterday's backup. Now, the phone is respringing by itself every few minutes. When the phone resprings while connected to iMac by USB, iTunes does state that the iPhone is no longer connected, but iTunes never displays the phone as being connected.

Also, DiskAid no longer sees the phone by wifi or USB. iPhone Explorer doesn't see the phone.

Update 30 minutes after original post: now the phone turns off after a few minutes. I can get it back on by manual respring. Phone opens in 3G, so I can't make wifi connection with DiskAid. iTunes, iPhone Explorer and DiskAid still don't show phone when connected by USB.

Any suggestions appreciated!! I'm almost panicking.

You should be able to manually uninstall it using the command line in the program iFunBox.

      Google search for a walkthrough.

You will need to figure out the package name, then simply type in the command, and it should be uninstalled.

Im out and about so thats about all the help I can give

What he said. Nice on lock and home, but don't want it running while in apps.
