  • How to Jailbreak your iOS 7.x iDevice with evasi0n 7

    {last updated March 1st, 2014}

This Windows and OS X guide will teach you how to jailbreak various devices using evasi0n 7. The current version of evasi0n 7 is 1.0.7. Note this is an UNTETHERED JAILBREAK, meaning you can reboot your phone just like you normally would.

NOTE: The evasi0n 7 jailbreak and Mobile Substrate (necessary for many tweaks, including WinterBoard) are not fully compatible yet. A version of evasi0n 7 which fixes this will be out soon (possible a few days).

This guide should be used with the following device/firmware combinations (if you're not sure, here's how to find your iOS firmware version and how to find your iOS device type):
    • iPhone 4 | 7.0 through 7.0.6
    • iPhone 4S | 7.0 through 7.0.6
    • iPhone 5 | 7.0 through 7.0.6
    • iPhone 5S | 7.0 through 7.0.6
    • iPhone 5C | 7.0 through 7.0.6
    • iPod touch 5G | 7.0 through 7.0.6
    • iPad 2 | 7.0 through 7.0.6
    • The New iPad (third generation) | 7.0 through 7.0.6
    • iPad With Retina Display (fourth generation) | 7.0 through 7.0.6
    • iPad Mini | 7.0 through 7.0.6
    • iPad Mini with Retina Display | 7.0 through 7.0.6
    • iPad Air | 7.0 through 7.0.6

NOTE: The team that put together this jailbreak (@pimskeks, @planetbeing, and @pod2g IS accepting donations - please feel free to donate via PayPal if you're able! All proceeds from your contributions will go to Public Knowledge, Electronic Frontier Foundation and Foundation for a Free Information Infrastructure to help protect jailbreaking as your legal right. You can also donate on the evasi0n website (same PayPal); scroll down and click the green Contribute button.

NOTE: Before running the evasi0n 7 jailbreak, you should fully back up your data via iTunes and restore to 7.0.6.

If you are on a lower firmware version than iOS 7.0.6 (again, here's how to check), it is highly recommended you update your phone to iOS 7.0.4 BEFORE jailbreaking. If you haven't yet, you should do this through iTunes, NOT over the air (it's ok if you already have).

Alright, let's assume you're now on iOS 7.0.6 (this guide will also work on firmware versions 7.0 through 7.0.5, but it is best to update to 7.0.6) and backed up.

Let's get started. First thing you'll need to do is download the version of evasi0n 7 for your operating system. You can do so on evasi0n.com or from these mirrors:

    OS X evasi0n 7 1.0.7 at mod.my/evasi0n7mac107.
    Windows evasi0n 7 1.0.7 at mod.my/evasi0n7win107.

Double-click the zip file to unzip it if your browser didn't automatically unzip the file.

Making sure your device is connected, and only one device, right-click the evasi0n icon and choose open from the menu to launch it. You may be prompted to allow an application for a new developer - click Open.

You will see the evasi0n home screen, and evasi0n should tell you your device (and firmware version) is detected. Click the Jailbreak button to begin.

evasi0n will then go through many status messages while it jailbreaks your device. This process also can take a few minutes. Do not touch or unplug the device during this process.

At the end of this process, evasi0n will let you know there is now a new evasi0n 7 icon on your iDevice, and to unlock your device and tap the icon. ONLY TAP THE ICON ONCE, LEAVING YOUR DEVICE CONNECTED. It will restart.

After restarting, evasi0n 7 will run through more status messages as it continues to jailbreak your iDevice. Don't touch anything.

When it is ready, evasi0n 7 will ask you to unlock your device to continue. Do so, and the device will reboot once again.

More status messages, and then a message saying Done!

Cydia is now on your iDevice! You can press Exit in evasi0n 7 now - your jailbreak is complete.

That's it! You're now holding a jailbroken device. Not too bad, eh?

Posting for anyone in the future looking to jailbreak an OLD iPhone stuck on an OLD iOS.

Old iPhone 2, turning the iPhone into a local network appliance (remote control, weather, handy net device). After restoring iPhone 2 to 3.1.3, found it difficult to jailbreak. Old information, tons if content, and most links to files are broken or otherwise non-available.

      Here is what worked:
http://greenpois0n.ru/en/tag/3-1-3/ <-great link to active links to nearly every version of apps to jailbreak.
      • Pwnage Tool 3.1.5 (from link above)
      • Boot loaders 3.9 & 4.1(from hxxp://www.exyusat.com/upload/viewer_top.php?file=bootloaders%203.9%20et%204.6%2 0.%202g.zip&dir=Gsm%20unlocing%20tools/iphone)

      Cheers....

6.1.3 is jealbreakable too. Google 'jailbreak 6.1.3 Windows' or 'jailbreak 6.1.3 Mac' accordingly.

If you manage to upgrade it to 7.0.4 through iTunes then the window isn't closed.

Any problems with Mobile Substrate and iPhone 5S? Are most popular tweaks updated for the 5S? I've been waiting to JB because I heard there wasn't much available for the 5S at first but I'm ready to try it now if things are better.

      Yes! On 5S- we're BACK!!

Winterboard is significantly weakened in iOS7.. No widgets on your springboard behind the icons - on any phone.. And limited UI themeing.. Icon themeing.. Yes! All good.. And as Cadi said - lots of good tweaks. It's nowhere near all we could do with iOS6.. But your 5S will feel "Themed".. Time to come over!

I have an iPhone 4 GSM that I try to jailbreak with Evasi0n. I've tried it on 7.0.4 and now on 7.0.6 with a modified Evasi0n on both Mac and Windows with the same result.

Before beginning I set my phone in DFU-mode and restore with Shift in iTunes. After it is installed I set up the phone as a new one.

Now I start Evasi0n, and everything works fine until the last reboot, when it says Done in the Evasi0n app the phone is just rebooting. You see the Apple for 20 seconds, then the screen flickers and it starts over.

I never get to the white screen with Evasi0n installing everything.

I have not updated the phone OTA at all.

What do you suggest? I have tried 10 times, with the same result, on both Mac and PC.

      Please help!

What do you hold shift for ? It's not a custom firmware, it it ? Also, what do you mean by 'modified EvasiOn' ?

I hold shift so I can install the firmware I have downloaded (and not have iTunes do it over and over again). I have also tried installing the firmware without holding shift.

A modified version for 7.0.6, but now that evasi0n released the official one so I tried that, with the same result.

I do everything according to how you should do it, without any success!

I don't get the the white evasi0n screen where it installs the jailbreak after the last reboot. It just loops the apple logo.

Shouldn't be using a modified firmware or evasion. The official evasion supports 7.0.6 now. Just restore normally in iTunes to 7.0.6 then run evasion after.

Hello, a newbie here. Well, newbie to this site, I have owned a Mac since 1985. Here is my situation: I am using an iPhone 5 and iOS7.0.6. When I try to install and run evasion's jailbreak software all goes well until the very last step. After it reboots for the umpteenth time I am supposed to get a message DONE and to click EXIT. Well, I never get that message. After the last reboot evasion just quits. I have an evasion icon on my phone, but no Cydia. When I click on the envision icon I get a white screen that doesn't go away. Can anybody help me? If you need more information let me know.

Thanks! (Oh, how do I add a picture to my profile?)

If you have upgraded OTA to 7.0.6 than that is the result. You have to do a restore to 7.0.6 and than JB.

I tried it twice. I got all the screens except for last one that says done. Cydia app never showed up. Anyone else have this problem? iPhone 5 with Sprint running 7.0.6
