  • MMi at Macworld: SuperSync Keeps Your iTunes Library Synced Across Multiple Macs

If you're anything like me, then you have multiple Macs and iOS devices scattered all over your house, but only one computer with all of your iTunes files. Accessing an iTunes library from any computer in your home is easy enough when you have your iTunes preferences set to “Share my library on my local network.” But what if you want to take your music with you when you travel and still want to keep your iTunes libraries synched up? That's where SuperSync comes in.

“SuperSync is an application designed to compare and synchronize music libraries, ensuring that users will always have complete access to all of their own music. With SuperSync, music libraries can be accessed via the Internet anywhere, anytime, making it easier for users to manage multiple music libraries and stay organized.” With SuperSync you can play songs, or add files and keep everything synced up wherever you go and with all of the Macs in your home.

Pricing depends on the number of computers you want to keep synced up. A 2-pak is currently selling for $25 and a 5-pak for $33. For a home with a Mac in every room, a 10-pak currently goes for $40.

SuperSync uses color codes to help you keep track of where music tracks are located on each computer. Grey tracks are located on the local drive, Blue tracks are located on the remote drive and Green tracks are located on both. You can also browse for music just as you would in iTunes by artist, album, or genre and listen to tracks as well.

SuperSync also includes a special web interface for iPhone and iPod Touch users, so you don’t have to download an App to browse and play tracks on your device. You can stream music and movie files on your home network, but SuperSync cannot sync apps or any other iOS data. You still have to go through iTunes to sync data.

If you’ve been having a tough time keeping all of your iTunes libraries synced up across a multitude of Macs in your home, then SuperSync might just be what you’ve been waiting for.

What I dont get is that Apple looks at Jailbreaking and starts implementing certain JB 'features' and makes them standard ios device features.
Why cant they look at their itunes software and do the same?

iTunes should be getting better before getting new features like silly 'ping'. It needs to have network support and 'remote folders' support and definately the ability to maintain libraries and such when the remote source is 'currently unavailable' (which ends up clearing all your library/playlists and forcing you to re-import everything).

This is actually EXACTLY what I need. I'm surprised it took this long to be able to do this. Apple will just add it in iTunes 11 now...

I've had this program for several months now. Great piece of software. Helped me find duplicates, tracks with no artwork, etc...

Don't own enough Macs for this to be useful. Good idea though.

I agree with others, that this is a feature that should be native to itunes and that Apple should be implementing useful features. A feature that is much needed is a REAL duplicate eliminator. As for this supersync, I think I'll give it a try. Does anyone know if it'll sync a library stored on a timecapsule?
