  • Gold HTC One Seeks to Compete with Apple's Gold iPhone 5S Offering

HTC recently announced a new variant to its HTC One that gives Android fans with the taste for gold a nice alternative to the iPhone 5S. The new device is identical to the original when it comes to the internal parts but its aluminum panels have a new champagne-colored design. For those of you who didnít know, HTC has already produced a gold HTC One, but that of course had a real 18-carat gold coating and was made to commemorate the 18th anniversary of the MOBO awards. Only five of these devices were manufactured and each one was priced at a whopping $4,500.

The new handset produced is by the company is much cheaper and more affordable though. Itís made from gold-colored aluminum, just like the original One and the gold iPhone 5S, which isnít actual 18-carat gold either.

The One is already seen as a competitive alternative to the iPhone, with the device boasting better design and build quality than most other Android-powered smartphones. This coupled with its 1080p display, a quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor, HTCís trademark UltraPixel camera and BoomSound audio with front-facing stereo speakers could convert quite a few iOS device owners.

HTCís new device will be available across Europe ďsoon,Ē with no pricing or availability being confirmed as of yet.

I wouldn't. It's three year old tech. If you're looking for cheap go with a 5c.

4s is better structurally-- stainless steel vs cheaper aluminum

If I had to leave my iPhone tomorrow, I'd get the HTC One (not gold, though)

Since when is aluminum so "cheap"? Have you been to a scrap yard lately? Arguably, it IS stronger than aluminum, but at a MUCH higher weight cost. And what are you doing to the phone that requires a stainless steel frame? Not to mention the glass back makes it MUCH LESS structurally sound than the "cheaper" aluminum back. And 512mb ram? No thank you. iPhone 4Ss have slowed down running iOS 7. My iPhone 5 has yet to slow down in ANY conditions.

This is the one phone can compete with the iPhone, design wise of course.

I'm sure it works just fine, however being a "good buy" typically means that it is worth the money and will continue to work well and is not outdated. The 4S, in two years, will be five years old. I wouldn't recommend a computer with a three year old Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2GB of RAM. When you recommend a computer to someone, you typically recommend something that is economical, and will last. In my opinion, it is the same with smartphones today.

@Donnut has an excellent point, I have to agree that 5C is the better option
