  • Samsung Douses Rumors of Poor Galaxy Gear Sales by Announcing 800,000 Units Sold

Samsung recently made an announcement stating its Galaxy Gear smartwatch has sold 800,000 units since launching in September. The announcement was made in an effort to douse the rumors that were claiming Samsung only managed to sell only 500,000 pieces over the two-month timeframe. According to a recent report from Reuters, Samsung is now touting the Galaxy Gear as the world’s most popular smartwatch after hitting the 800,000 units sold mark in November.
According to the South Korean manufacturer:

It's the most sold wearable watch available in the market place...and we plan to expand its availability by expanding mobile devices that work with the Gear.
This number has supposedly even exceeded Samsung’s expectations, leading the company to extend sales promotions during the upcoming holiday season. Although critics and reviewers panned the device for lacking features and being difficult to use, it appears Samsung’s aggressive marketing campaign paid off. At $300, the Galaxy Gear remains an expensive accessory, especially for its purpose of being a wearable device designed to operate in conjunction with a smartphone or “phablet.”

How do you feel about Samsung’s announcement and claims?
