Business is Booming for Apple in Japan
Although most of Apple's business ambitions in Asia appear to be centered on China, it's critically important to not overlook Japan. And Apple certainly isn't.
In fact, according to the latest published sales data and industry sources speaking with the Wall Street Journal, the iDevice maker is essentially "striking gold" in Japan.
Since 2011, Japan has been Apple's fastest-growing region, "far outpacing its home market and the booming economies of Greater China and the rest of Asia. "
It may also come as news to many that Japan is now home to Apple's biggest profit margins. It's also only one of Apple's five regions where operating profit actually increased in the past fiscal year.
"Apple's brand is just overwhelming here," says Eiji Mori, a Tokyo-based analyst at BCN Inc. "It's not about specifications. It's not about rationale. It's about owning an iPhone."
Analysts credit the fall 2013 launch of the iPhone on Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo with giving added momentum to the iPhone's success as the year draws to an end.
