  • 'SilencePlease' Aims to Quiet Notifications Down When You Don't Want to Hear Them

For better control over your incoming push notifications on your iOS device, look no further than a new jailbreak tweak called SilencePlease by iOS developer Thomas Finch.

SilencePlease gives you additional options for controlling how your incoming notifications reach you. You can make it so that notifications don’t bug you during a phone call or FaceTime call, or even control how repeated notifications behave.

Unlike Apple's native Do Not Disturb feature, which silences notifications altogether during the period of time that it is enabled, SilencePlease offers a much more versatile feature set.

You'll find the SilencePlease preferences pane in the Settings application after installing the tweak, as shown below:

The first section you will find houses the settings for controlling the way repeated notifications behave. You can set a time interval that has to occur between two or more notifications for the settings in this section to take effect. This is very useful for when you’re doing something, and you have ‘that guy’ texting you one word at a time every second. It’s irritating… but this tweak has your back. You can set the interval to 10, 15, 30, or 60 seconds. For notifications that happen from the same application within this time interval, you can choose to mute the notification sounds, disable the notification vibration, or even both.

There’s also a section for both phone calls and FaceTime calls. From these sections, you can choose to mute all notifications sounds, or disable notification vibrations while you’re in the middle of a call. This will come in handy for some, because the vibration can make it difficult to hear what the person on the phone is saying, and the notification noises can be distracting or even loud.

The final section lets you manage notifications when you're listening to music on your iOS device. You can choose to mute sounds, or even disable vibrations while you're listening to any kind of media on your iOS device.

Sometimes getting notifications at inconvenient times is one of the worst annoyances for iOS device users. SilencePlease offers an effective method of automatically keeping irritating notifications away when you really don’t want to be bothered by them. If you want to give the tweak a try, it's available in Cydia's BigBoss repository for just 99¢. It's compatible with both iOS 5 and iOS 6.
