  • iPad Air Launches for $20 Off at Walmart

With Apple's new iPad poised to launch next Friday, Walmart is angling to secure an advantage among the retail giants hoping to see a rush of first-wave iPad Air buyers.

Walmart confirmed (via social media) Thursday that it will offer the iPad Air for $479 on a so-called "roll back" product launch. That's a full $20 cheaper than you're going to get the iPad Air just about anywhere else.

But as Jay Yarow of Business Insider reminds us, there are other players in this game - like Best Buy - that routinely price-match if it means making the sale. Consequently, Walmart may just be one of the best places to get the new iPad Air, not the best.

Of course, there are other advantages to the Walmart experience, however.

"Walmart will also do a tablet trade-in program," Yarow says. "So, potentially, you could get a discount on the new iPad if you trade-in your old iPad."

I'm surprised Apple allows discounts from competing retailers.

I don't think apple views them as a competitor, otherwise they wouldn't let them sell the iPad in the first place.

Forget this deal! If T-Mo is giving free data because you buy from them, the $20 savings is pointless.

Isn't that free data only 200mbs?

That's ok with me T-Mobile is only one doing this. I think the other carriers is charging far too much. I will just hotspot my new iPad air anyways...

Yes, buts that's plenty if you're just needing to look something up real quick. Otherwise, AT&T charges $15/month for 250MB.

Although I understand where your coming from I'm not gonna spend $499 to "look something up real quick" but personal preference.

I hear ya but my job uses iPads and I occasionally need to have an internet connection. I have an unlimited plan so AT&T tethering is out of the question. I'd spend the extra $100 upfront knowing that I could use it in those times of need.

BTW, prior to my current job, I only had WiFi iPads cuz I saw no need for Cellular. Lastly, if and when a jailbreak comes out, then I'm not as worried about a Cellular iPad since I have MyWi. My only problem is that my work might make me upgrade FW, therefore, losing the jailbreak and leaving me back where I started.
