  • New iOS App Lets iPhone 5c Users Put Their Case on Backwards to Play Connect Four

iPhone 5c users that have one of Apple’s iPhone 5c cases can use a new App Store application to play connect four through the circular holes on the iPhone 5c case. In connect four, two players compete to try and get four of their colored chips in a row.

The application is called Flipcase by Bytesize, and as the name implies, you will be putting your iPhone 5c case on your iPhone 5c backwards and playing connect four through the holes of the case. Flipcase is a free application in the App Store, and you can watch a video demonstration of the application below:

Interestingly, all of the interface elements of the application are designed to perfectly align with the display when the holes of the iPhone 5c case overlap the display of the iPhone 5c. The game includes both a one-player mode, as well as a two-player mode.

Technically speaking, you don’t have to have an iPhone 5c to play this game. The developers note that it will run on any iPhone that has a four-inch display, but using the iPhone 5c with its official case from Apple just gives the game that finishing touch that the developers intended for it to have. Not to mention, the interface is a little confusing to the eyes without the case's holes to guide you on where exactly to tap.

Your iPhone does need to be running iOS 7 to install the application. If you want to download Flipcase and start playing the game, it's available in the App Store for free via this link.

Next thing, someone will make an app that allows you to make your own morning coffee using the 5s's M7 chip. I can't wait!

This is probably the most innovative thing in about 4 years on the iPhone.

Somebody missed the point of this game altogether.

Apple didn't make this game. Bytesize did. It's just a cute, creative way to do something nobody else thought of that also happens to be fun. Someone had an idea that they thought was kind of cool and they went with it.

Bytesize took Apples weird case design and did something with it that no one else has thought of yet, put it on backwards and integrate that in their game design.

They looked at the holes in the 5c case and saw a 5x7 grid which when flipped only leaves a useable grid of 5x5 but is just tall enough in landscape view to connect 4 and leave a row so you have room to block a 4 piece run across the bottom row and still be able to attempt a vertical or diagonal win.

Apple just happened to make the holes in the case physically only one row shorter than the most commonly used connect 4 layout which is 7 across by 6 high (7x6). Now granted the playable area is only 5x5, but even so for an App Developer to see a game in a bunch of holes on a case and then use the case as part of their UI for their game is actually really amazing!!!

I mean honestly would you have seen a game within Apples case design??? Hmm my Magic 8-Ball says "No!" Besides what does the game made by Bytesize have to do with Apple being amazing?? Oh wait… you're an idiot!!!

That's really such a great idea. So simple, but effective. Plus, apple has to be pretty happy b/c it uses their cases for it to work. Granted, i'm sure some 3rd party/knockoff case companies have made that same case but it's still a great idea nonetheless.

Ha-ha, now that's pretty d@mn ingenious. Quick and easy entertainment for the kids. I actually said "whoa" when I read the title and saw the picture. It's been some time since that's happened for me, and it speaks volumes about the innovation lately when this simple code gets a "whoa" from me. lol I like it!
