  • Issues with iMessage in iOS 7 Reportedly Resolved with a Temporary Fix

Based on multiple reports on Apple’s Support Communities webpage, iPhone owners who recently upgraded to iOS 7 are experiencing issues with iMessage, though a simple software reset seems to be temporarily resolving the problem. For those of you who are unaware, a number of Apple’s Support Communities users have reported an iMessage bug that is causing messages to go unsent, unreceived or sent as a text on a variety of iPhone models running iOS 7. Others are complaining that iMessages are not being converted to SMS texts as it would be the case if Apple’s servers were down and are simply not being sent.

Some of the threads date back to September 18 when Apple released the latest version of iOS to the public, though posts regarding the issue have become more frequent since last week’s iOS 7.0.2 update.

That being said, many members seem to have discovered a possible solution. Some users are finding success with the following procedure: Disabling iMessage in Settings > Messages, resetting the iPhone’s Network Settings under Settings > General > Reset, then re-enabling iMessage. This method was also reported to be successful by the folks over at MacRumors recently.

Some users are said to be using variations of the method including shutting down the handset for three to five minutes, though this particular technique has seen mixed results.

The supposed iMessage troubles are the latest in a string of minor bugs users have reported following the launch of Apple’s iOS 7 less than two weeks ago. The Cupertino California company has pushed out two updates since, the first being a day-one patch that dealt with the iPhone 5S’ Touch ID sensor and the second being an update that patched a lock screen passcode bypass bug.

Have any of you experienced this issue? If so, did the temporary fix work for you?

I've been getting this, messages just saying sending... permanently. Rebooting the phone seems to fix the issue but it comes back a couple of days later. Only affecting my iPhone 5, not my iPad Mini.

I like how this wasn't a problem in the beta at all. It just magically appeared with the official launch.

A simple reboot seemed to remedy the problem for me... Though I thought it was an isolated incident.

Agreed!^^ I've been beta testing for months and each iteration did get better but still needs work. I had the iMessage issue and thought something was wrong with my girl for not responding. I also have the issue where my songs won't play. I select play and nothing happens. I have to quit the music app and relaunch to clear. Bluetooth also gets funky at times. I don't want to update to 7.0.2 Im good with that for now.

I agree, but they couldn't push out a new iPhone without iOS 7.

I get this occasionally. Didn't really start till 7.0.2 though. A reboot fixes it for me for a while.

They also weren't really able to make enough new iPhones for the release date though.

I found a few problems with IOS7 on my iPhone4 so I did the smart thing and didn't upgrade my iPad and left it jailbroken on 6.1.2.
