  • Facebook to Bring Published Post Editing to iOS Soon

Facebook recently announced that users could begin editing posts that have been published from the Web, or from the updated Android application. In addition, iOS users will be able to join in on the fun shortly in the future. For whatever reason, Facebook is making iOS users wait.

With this new ability, should you post something incorrectly or inadvertently include a typo, you will be able to edit the post to make it look right. As TechCrunch notes, this means you'll be able to keep all of your likes and comments without having to delete your post and start over because of a single mistake. Hopefully, just hopefully, you'll get to it before everyone sees the mistake!

Facebook has allowed users to edit comments for a while now, but not published posts.

When you want to edit a post, you will be able to click on an edit button, and the content of the post will become editable. You can make the necessary changes that you want to, and then you’ll be able to click on a done editing button to save your changes.

Being that the feature has been highly requested for so long, many Facebook users will rejoice with the introduction of this new feature.

why was this NOT an original feature? So silly. What should have been has taken years. Doesn't say much about innovation at all.

A feature that should have been here...

I for one thought that I was doing something wrong or looking in the wrong place originally when I had to edit something in the iOS app... Not going to lie. I never cared enough, but it's something that should have been in the app from the start. I can't even call it a feature as it's, well, just an expected pat of the app IMHO

I read somewhere that Facebook originally was against editing published posts because they were concerned that there would be a big problem with "bait 'n switch" situations. Legitimate concern for a site with a billion active users.

      Yes, you're right.

They combated this with comment editing by showing when the user edited the comment, and allowing the reader to see the original. I think they may do the same with this.

Can't be true since you can edit posts outside of the app ie: in safari.

He didn't say you can't edit. He just said they were originally against it.

Editing of comments started June of last year.

iOS users probably have to wait because of the approval process.
