  • MuscleNerd: iOS 7.0.2 is Safe to Update to for Future Jailbreakers

Thursday afternoon, Apple released a software update dubbed iOS 7.0.2 to the public. The update intended to fix a potentially harmful lock screen glitch that could allow an unwanted user to make phone calls from the device.

While the update is recommended for all iOS 7 users, we always take caution for those that care about jailbreaking. We initially recommended that users did not upgrade to iOS 7.0.2 until a prominent hacker in the jailbreak community had time to examine the update and ensure that it didn’t hinder progress.

Well fortunately, that time has come. iOS hacker MuscleNerd has confirmed Thursday evening that iOS 7.0.2 does not appear to hinder jailbreak exploits that are being tested on iOS 7. Instead, the update appears to only be there to remedy the lock screen glitch. Consider that a green light.

In simpler terms… if you want to be able to jailbreak your iOS 7 device, you will be safe updating to iOS 7.0.2. Apple is testing another software update that will be released in the future dubbed iOS 7.1, which we would also suggest waiting to install until hackers have had a chance to look at it as well.

It goes without saying that if you're currently jailbroken, avoid 7.x.x. (Same if you're on iOS5 and use redsn0w's iOS5 re-restore feature)

This was pretty much a given, for me. They wouldn't release a jailbreak for a firmware that was old. They are trying to stay ahead of the game, not behind.

Are OTA updates fine to do or is it better to update in iTunes? Is there any difference? Seems like on a old jailbreak OTA caused issues but can't remember fully

Not always the best idea, since Apple may try and stay ahead. Meaning 7.02 could end up being the only iOS 7 software that can be jailbroken. Don't fall to behind the updates.

Sad, really...cause if Apple can get their timing right. They could possibly ruin any jailbreak opportunity for anyone waiting to get the new iphones. With that said, Can you imagine the possibility of an Iphone 5s with no jailbreak... EVER?!?

Same thing I've been saying. Their are people that will wait to get a iPhone until a jailbreak but depending on what iOS gets released and when apple stops signing certain iOS. People could be screwed either way.also no telling what iOS your phone will have when u get it.

If it does happen like you suggested, can you imagine the price of a jailbroken 64g Iphone 5s on Ebay! Lol
