  • MuscleNerd: iOS 7.0.2 is Safe to Update to for Future Jailbreakers

Thursday afternoon, Apple released a software update dubbed iOS 7.0.2 to the public. The update intended to fix a potentially harmful lock screen glitch that could allow an unwanted user to make phone calls from the device.

While the update is recommended for all iOS 7 users, we always take caution for those that care about jailbreaking. We initially recommended that users did not upgrade to iOS 7.0.2 until a prominent hacker in the jailbreak community had time to examine the update and ensure that it didn’t hinder progress.

Well fortunately, that time has come. iOS hacker MuscleNerd has confirmed Thursday evening that iOS 7.0.2 does not appear to hinder jailbreak exploits that are being tested on iOS 7. Instead, the update appears to only be there to remedy the lock screen glitch. Consider that a green light.

In simpler terms… if you want to be able to jailbreak your iOS 7 device, you will be safe updating to iOS 7.0.2. Apple is testing another software update that will be released in the future dubbed iOS 7.1, which we would also suggest waiting to install until hackers have had a chance to look at it as well.

In case you're like me and were wondering, 7.0.3 is also safe.
