  • Apple Sets Record with 9M Opening Weekend iPhone Sales

Shares of Apple are soaring to the upside Monday morning on news that the iPhone maker sold a record number of new iPhones over the opening launch weekend for iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C.

Blowing past even the most optimistic of analyst expectations, Apple sold nine million new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c models in their first three days of availability.

Perhaps just as impressively, more than 200 million iOS devices are now running iOS 7, making it the fastest software upgrade in history.

As of Friday, both iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c have been made available to consumers in the US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK.

According to details shared by Apple today, demand for iPhone 5s has exceeded the initial supply, and many online orders are scheduled to be shipped in the coming weeks.

“This is our best iPhone launch yet―more than nine million new iPhones sold―a new record for first weekend sales,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and while we’ve sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5s, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone.”

And people thought the new ones were gonna flop... Hahahah... I must admit, I was going to wait for a jailbreak before purchasing the 5s and even thought of skipping this release and waiting until the 6 drops... Glad I got the new one and on release day too... What a jump in processing power over the 4 I've been on for 3 years... Also to now be on 4G and LTE, holy smokes! Honestly, I miss many jailbreak tweaks and look forward to jail breaking this beautiful beast... In the meantime many functional tweaks from Cydia are now stock in iOS 7 so I'm missing my jailbreak more for aesthetics... I thought this would be a big release for Apple and was surprised that only the phones were released and no new iPad, iPad mini,or Apple TV were announced... Anyways, the 5s is a dope phone and even the fingerprint scanning home button is really nice (I thought it was gimmicky before I used it). So yeah, way to go Apple! Suck it you pessimistic analysts...

And it would be AWESOME to not have to look at a Sham-sung ad at the bottom of a site about Apple devices ...

Haha... I keep hearing people comment here about the ads... It's a good reason to pay for the in app purchase, to have a samsung ad free mmi... I never see them but agree that it's kinda weird to have a samsung ad on here...

+1, would like to see this as well. In the past, it has always been just the "S" model. Now, we got two in the market. It will be interesting both numbers.

105 iPhones per second, that's not bad at all.

Ya no kidding huh? Makes me laugh to see that also. Kinda hypocritical lol. Pain in the butt tho when scrolling and trying read and that ads enlarges. Maybe find another spot for it on the page instead of bottom center.

This is not exactly a shocker. Many of the people I know were waiting for their contracts to end and skipped the iPhone 5.

Does anyone know if AT&T makes you give up unlimited data plan if you are in eligible upgrade status and going from the 4s (4G) to the 5s (LTE)?

Nope they don't. I had the 4S and upgraded to the 5S and got to keep my unlimited data still.

That was a rumor that started last year but was debunked. You're in the clear!
