  • Google Launches Calico With Chairman of Apple at The Helm

Moments ago, Google formally announced the launch of a new company called Calico.

Different from the usual Google enterprise, this effort focuses largely on health and technology, the fusion of which is becoming impossible to ignore and hugely profitable for those on the cutting edge of mobile health and telemedicine.

The new company, Google says, will focus on health and well-being, in particular the challenge of aging and associated diseases.

Interestingly, however, Arthur D. Levinson, Chairman and former CEO of Genentech and Chairman of Apple, will be Chief Executive Officer and a founding investor of Calico.

“For too many of our friends and family, life has been cut short or the quality of their life is too often lacking. Art is one of the crazy ones who thinks it doesn’t have to be this way," Apple CEO Tim Cook stated on the Google News Blog. "There is no one better suited to lead this mission and I am excited to see the results.”

It should be noted, however, that few details are presently known about the initial aims and efforts we can expect from Calico.

“Illness and aging affect all our families. With some longer term, moonshot thinking around healthcare and biotechnology, I believe we can improve millions of lives,” says Google CEO Larry Page. “It’s impossible to imagine anyone better than Art—one of the leading scientists, entrepreneurs and CEOs of our generation—to take this new venture forward.”

Way to go *T*, 2 years, and many posts later, and still going on about Steve vs The New Guy. Incidentally, ya really think everything Apple originated from Steve Jobs?

Let it go, bud. Let it go.
