  • Should You Upgrade to iOS 7 Tomorrow?

iOS 7 is going to be released to the public tomorrow, Wednesday, September 18th and the big question is about to surface: “Should I upgrade, or not?”

Like with every new software release, there may be a huge urge to upgrade. We don’t blame you. With the number of new features, as well as the refreshing sight of a different kind of interface style for iOS, iOS 7 is truly a marvel worth considering. Of course, there are also those out there that can't stand iOS 7 altogether... but they'll probably warm up to it with time because change can be difficult sometimes.

So should you upgrade tomorrow? – Maybe… and maybe not.

Remember, iOS 7 is not jailbreakable. If you have a jailbreak and you don’t want to lose your ability to install third-party applications that are more powerful than those that Apple allows into the App Store, then you may want to consider sticking with your iOS 6 firmware with your jailbreak for now. The evad3rs are working hard on trying to jailbreak iOS 7, and from what it looks like, progress is being made. If you're on an iOS 6 firmware that can't be jailbroken right now, then you might still want to hold off because iOS hacker winocm just teased his untethered iOS 6.1.4 jailbreak on an iPhone 5.

On the other hand, if you’re just getting bored of your jailbroken iOS 6 device and you are content with the feature set in iOS 7 and the all-new interface style, then you should feel free to jump right in. iOS 7, like other major releases in the past, borrows a lot of ideas from the jailbreak community. So it's completely understandable that you might be feeling, "Well iOS 7 natively adds all of the features that I used to jailbreak for."

iOS 7 brings forth a lot of new features, like Control Center, which is your easy-to-get-to hub for toggles, shortcuts, and more, iTunes radio, which lets you listen to all kinds of music on the go, improved multitasking, which now shows you previews of the applications right in the switcher, AirDrop, which lets you send files to other AirDrop users in short distances over Bluetooth, improved photography with integrated filters, a smarter Siri, and much more.

As for us... well... we have a lot of devices. We will be keeping some jailbroken on iOS 6, and updating some to iOS 7 just for fun!

My company advised us not to upgrade as it will have a bad impact on the pushmail. According to their tests.

And as Apple are rude and refuse to give the iPad3 some features I will wait till the jailbreak comes out for it.
I am running iOS 7 GM on my iPad 4. Been using it since beta 2.

If I am on iOS 7 Beta 6 will I be able to upgrade easily with Check for Update in iTunes? Because at the moment it says you are on iOS 7.0, so I don't know how it will work.

IDK how many times this same similar quote is repeated year after year whenever a new OS comes out, and yet, someone always finds a reason that they need their jailbreak again.

FFS just upgrade and choose to lose your jailbreak for a bit or upgrade when the time is right for YOU.

OR...don't upgrade at all and stop whining.

I am only fearing that iOS 7 sill slow down my iPhone 4S as well as iPhone 5. Furthermore, I fear it will consume battery life faster.

Lucky sob. I bought my 5 about six months ago and went from 6.0.1 to 6.1.3 thanks to apple for the forced restore upgrade.

They have programs now like ilex rat and semi restore if something would happen to my phone.
I got lucky with my iPad mini it came with 6.1.3 and when apple opened all windows to firmwares months ago I was able to downgrade it

I still can't understand why on earth they didn't implement that. It makes no sense as to what the big deal is. Add it already!!
      I totally agree with you

I've been running 7 since it came out...all the 6 betas and GM... I went back to 6.1.4 last night... I only really like a few things about 7... Control center, mail app, new switcher n swipe close apps...that's about it... I'll sit on 6 for a bit n enjoy it...I like 6's notification center better than 7... Too bad 6 doesn't have control center..I'd stay here a lot longer...I wonder how long apple will sign 6.1.4 for ip5....

Everything the implemented in 7 minus quick reply is what I use now but it's just buggy. Slows down my i4. I will be keeping my jailbreak because if one thing...pandora tweaks. Nuff said.

I would like to try iTunes radio but it might just have to wait.

If you are upgrading I dont see it going well today. Based on the fact you have to have iTunes 11.1 and they havent released that yet???? So are they planning on releasing iTunes 11.1 at the same time as iOS 7? People will upgrade to iOS 7 and then be told it doesnt work with their iTunes and everyone will flood the sites to get iTunes 11.1. I feel like they should have released the new iTunes at least a day earlier....

im running an iphone 4s and have been on the GM for about 4 days, its Awesome, takes some to get used to though, you can no longer double click the home button on the lockscreen, this does nothing, instead you pull up from the bottom to start music, Apple should had left the double tap personally

      iOS 7
the same as before, when you get a banner now its bigger but you can push it up and off the screen, folders are 9 icons now but with scrolling pages

Multitasking is awesome, you can close up to 3 apps at the same time by swiping up on them

Calendar list view and month view are GONE which SUCKS, now you have to click on each day to see whats going on, still has a dot on them but the callendar is now stretched so the 2-3 events that used to be at the bottom are GONE

You can swipe back and forth through all of Apples apps, such as SAFARI, SETTINGS, CALENDAR, some in NOTES

The camera shoots almost INSTANT, and with HDR on you get 2 images with the 2nd being with the motion stop added, its prity clear

I cant tell yet if the background motion reduces battery life drastically or not but it still can be turned off in settings->general->accessibility->reduce motion

      settings->general->accessibility->BOLD TEXT

ADD GAMEBOY TO ANY IPHONE works on iOS7 and iOS6
itunes actually backs up your games

Yes I know, I have it. I'm just saying for the masses who upgrade they will be surprised when iTunes tells them it doesnt work and they need to upgrade iTunes.

Haven't they always done the new iTunes general release a couple days before the iOS one?

Possibly but, as of now, it still hasn't been released.
