Apple Reportedly Wants to 'Humanize' iTunes Radio Experience
Through the launch of its eagerly anticipated iTunes Radio service, Apple is aiming to be the DJ of our music lives. But the tech giant isn't looking to facilitate a cold, robotic listening experience for users. As a result, Apple is in search of new talent than can help humanize this forthcoming platform.
Executives in Cupertino are on the hunt for experienced radio music programmers capable of bringing their comprehensive knowledge of music across a broad variety of genres to iTunes Radio. From metal to Latin, Apple needs a handful of savvy genre specialists who can encourage smart and sensible listening experiences for fans of a wide array of music genres.
These new hires "will be responsible for selecting and promoting songs out of the thousands of new releases each month." According to published reports Tuesday, Apple has even been trying to steal away talent from some of the top labels in music for this effort.
"This human approach is very Apple," says Paul Sloan of CNET. "After all, the iTunes Store, which despite attempts by Amazon and Google remains by far the biggest digital music marketplace, relies on people to select which artists get featured, and that can make a new album or track. And so the people at iTunes Radio, which is an extension of the iTunes Store, will work closely with the labels to figure out whom to feature when. At least that is the expectation at the labels, which already work this way with the iTunes Store."
