  • Coming to iPad and iPhone HBO Go
The the premium cable television network HBO released a teaser video late last week on youtube. According to the HBO video the go service is on its way to the iPhone, iPad and Android base devices. HBO owned by Time Warner Cable, will be releasing an iOS app that streams movies and the network’s own shows.

The teaser video highlights the app’s features and indicates a planned release date of May 2, 2011.
The service allows people to stream 1,400 HBO shows, movies and documentaries such as sports, specials, blockbuster hits and HBO original series over the web.

HBO has refused to offer Netflix their content and is going it alone and will compete with Netflix. It will be interesting to see if Netflix customers switch and if they do will Netfilx raise their prices to compensate for the loss or will HBO cuts its prices? However HBO has premium content but also at a premium price.

I'd rather much pay for a Hulu subscription than a HBO sub.

I personally would rather have netflix especially if it's cheaper but I definitely like how all the TV content is now showing up in iDevices.

This is coming to Android as well. It is going to be huge considering Netflix hasn't hashed out the details of DRM vs Android. If HBO(and I believe Dish Network too) drop before Netflix does then Netflix is going to take a beating.

Because almost every U.S TV networks "on demand" service on their websites don't allow for viewers outside of U.S and Canada, I expect this to be no different

      HBO GO. It's HBO. Anywhere.

"To access HBO GO℠, you must reside within the fifty states of the United States of America. If you reside in this area and are still experiencing difficulties, please contact your television provider."

YES! waiting for discs sucks. it's a big reason i miss a lot of shows; i dont want to sit around and wait for the discs when i have more content i can see instantly.

I would even pay double to see EVERYTHING on instant instead of needing to wait for a disc.....

Please explain why Netflix would need to "raise" prices to compete with another provider?
Wouldn't it be the other way around where HBO would need to cut their price to compete with the very affordable Netflix?

I think he means that Netflix will lose customers because of this and will have to raise their prices to compensate for the loss. I don't agree with that though.

Mod edit: yes that is what I meant and adjustment made.
