  • Apple Reportedly Exploring Solar Power for Mobile... Again?


    With two new iPhones unveiled this week, the rumor mill is grasping at straws, it seems, to come up with something juicy to speculate about.

    So here we have a new report about solar power and how Apple may use it in the company's mobile business model.

    What we know for sure is that Apple is looking for a "Thin Films Engineer" with experience in - you guessed it - the solar industry! And this reality is creating a buzz across the blogosphere tonight.

    The Mobile Devices group is seeking an experienced professional who brings expertise in the area of thin films deposition. This engineer will assist in the development and refinement of thin films technologies applicable to electronic systems. The successful engineer in this role will be able to work closely with suppliers and deliver scalable manufacturing processes in a timely manner.
    Specifically, the job description alludes to work with Asia-based suppliers to develop thin-film deposition technologies.

    In recent years, there has been ample speculation that Apple is considering solar panels in everything from its corporate facilities to its mobile products. And while it's unlikely that we'll see a solar powered iPhone any time soon, solar energy could play a significant role in a smartwatch product, for example. And we all know Apple is working on one of those.

      You guys really think apple wants its devices in direct sunlight causing overheating?

      Maybe it'll be 'any' type of light which will be converted to energy. They could implement this as a transparent film on the front of the device (since that sees more light than the back does) which will slowly charge, anytime it sees light. Shoot...even the light being emitted from the screen could potentially be reused to charge the device!
