  • Sprint Bringing iPod touch to 3G on Nov 14?

Boy Genius Report is quoting a source at Sprint that claims the carrier will be bringing the ZTE Peel iPod touch case on November 14. The Peel case purportedly provides 3G access to a built-in wireless hotspot, allowing an iPod touch and four other devices to connect. The report was thin, with no information on pricing for the case itself. However, BGR claims Sprint will charge $29.99 for 1GB of data without a contract.

FCC documents revealed in July described the device built by Chinese electronics manufacturer. The Peel is a carriage sled type of case that is sized for a tablet style device like the iPod touch. There is no physical connection on the Peel that would connect it to the iPod touch, which would connect to the Peel's EV-DO Rev. 0 3G radio using WiFi. It uses its own battery for power, and charges via a microUSB port.

The "Peel" name, in addition to the form factor, raised suspicions that the case was meant to go with the iPod touch when the FCC docs were discovered. It's not clear whether the device will support making calls over Sprint's network through some sort of custom app, or whether it is data only.

$30 per GB? Seriously? It's like they're trying to make AT&T look good.

I Know AT&T give you Unlimited for the same price and 2GB for $5 buck less.

I don't think this is meant for an all the time browsing tool. If you wanted that, you would get a phone... What this IS handy for is being able to look something up on-the-fly like a restaurant or something. Not for hardcore browsing. What else would make it much more worthwhile is if this isn;t a monthly price, but a true per GB price. My mom uses about 200mb per month right now. It would take her about 5 months to burn through that $30. To all the naysayers, not everyone is a power user. In fact, I would say the vast majority of users will use under that 1GB per month anyway...

When you think about it its having a phone for 30 bucks a month. But I don't know how fast their 3G is. With the google phone and multiple texting apps it's could be a good deal

In the UK Three offer a mobile Wifi Hotspot over 3G which is basically what this appears to be but not in the form of a sleeve (it's like a GPS unit in size) for 15/month for 5Gb on a 1 month contract or 17/month for 15Gb on a 24 month contract.
It's data only so you can't make calls - which I assume this Sprint device is.
How long is the Sprint contract? Or is it a monthly contract?

Internet on the go with Mobile Broadband from 3 is the Sprint contract? Or is it a monthly contract?
