Top Japanese Carrier Reportedly Makes Bold iPhone Sales Prediction
News sources in the far east are reporting Thursday that the iPhone's arrival on Japan's largest mobile carrier network is sending shockwaves through the Asian smartphone world, as the carrier has allegedly made some bold predictions about the iPhone's sales potential.
As MMi previously reported, beginning next Friday in Japan, the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C will be available through DOCOMO. Apple was rumored to have inked a deal with the prominent Japanese mobile carrier prior to Tuesday's unveiling of the new devices.
As Nikkei reported this morning, some at DOCOMO have reportedly stated that the iPhone 5S and 5C may cumulatively account for at least 40 percent of its future smartphone contracts.
Ironically, the carrier, which has approximately 60 million subscribers today, has lost some of its market share of late due to its lack of coverage for the iPhone. Of course, that all changes next week.
“We’re thrilled to offer the incredible new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c to our customers,” Kaoru Kato, President and CEO of NTT DOCOMO, Inc. said Tuesday. “We know our customers will enjoy the amazing experience of iPhone on DOCOMO’s high-quality network.”
