  • T-Mobile Mocks Apple in New Ad

T-Mobile takes a shot at Apple and AT&T in a new TV commercial that spoofs Cupertino's "Get a Mac" TV spots. At the heart of the ad is the iPhone 4 and how the Apple smartphone (with FaceTime) has weighed down AT&T's 3G network. Pointing to the strength of T-Mobile's 4G network and the ability to enjoy video chats in places where WiFi isn't available, the ad has many Apple fans talking and even more Apple critics chuckling.

T-Mobile is simply the latest carrier to take aim at Apple over network coverage. In 2009, Verizon and AT&T tangled in a veritable onslaught of mutual attacks that ultimately resulted in a legal showdown. Tempers and tactics of that nature have since cooled between Verizon and AT&T. T-Mobile, however, doesn't seem reluctant in the least - judging by the brazen nature of this new commercial - to go for the jugular on what many perceive to be among the weakest attributes of the iPhone 4 experience.

By his own admission, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said there is work to be done and tweaks to be made to improve upon the iPhone 4 user experience, particularly with regard to the use of services like FaceTime. And until those improvements are made - either from Apple directly or its exclusive US carrier, AT&T - it's a safe bet that parodies from T-Mobile and others will continue in full.

AT&T is wasting too much money on exclusive to apple and not spending time upgrading their network. Here in Los Angeles AT&T is very spotty. Sprint and t mobiles 4G is getting top notch service here recently and AT&T hasn't done anything. Infact my iPhone is even slower because of so many iPhones and ipads. Tmobile now has wifi calling on wifi without any extra equipment. What has AT&T improve lately? I'm getting more drop calls and poor quality calls. Only thing keeping me on AT&T is my discount. AT&T needs to step up and show some improvements for it's customers or they will fall behind.

Android users and iPhone users can video chat. It's called Tango, look for the app. It's been around for some time now!

Tmo is in no position to attack anyone with their pathetic network. The only reason they have cheaper rates is because that is the only way they could keep customers.

They can reach 4G speeds. They don't have actual 4G technology. False advertising is all it is.

Sprints 4G isn't technically sprints as it's run and operated by clearwire not sprint... So wherever clear wire goes so does sprint it's that simple. Also T-mobiles 4G network, Verizons 4G network and even At&t 4G network will all be very similar as it's all based a different type of network and there for needing to be build from scratch. When Verizon releases there 4G network it will look no different then t-mobiles or clearwires. It's a matter of who has a better coverage overall based on previous networks that would be Verizon hands down. Basically if your not on Verizon and live outside some major city your pretty much screwed.

Speed isn't a problem with AT&T, at least for me anyway. My problem with AT&T is reliability. When I have signal the speed is awesome, it's just very rarely that I have a signal.

4G doesn't exist yet. They can call it 11G if they want, there aren't any standards in place to argue otherwise.

I could care less, I have good coverage and speed over 3G. FaceTime works great over 3G as well, T-Mobile just another carrier jealous of the iPhone.

Would be cool except for the fact you can video chat anywhere on iPhone without wifi .. Tango and yahoo messenger work just fine especially in Atlanta where the 3G coverage is amazingly great

AGREED!!! I purchased my first iPhone on craigslist that was already jailbroken and unlocked so that I could use a month-to-month plan. Their reception/customer service was so pathetic!!! I actually decided to pay the extra money for AT&T service. Let's not forget boys and girls.... You get what you pay for!

And I am more than content with AT&T's service.

As for FaceTime... I used it when I first got my i4. But even though I have my3g, I haven't used it since. It's not for me. But I can see how it can be very benificial for others.

eh i think you have your facts about the vid wrong, it's AT&T weighing down the iPhone 4, implying 2 things: iPhone 4 shouldnt be with a restrictive network, and it should be with t-mobile. it's not mocking Apple, but mocking AT&T in an Apple-esque way.

Agreed and iPhone should be on all carriers.
