  • Huge iPhone Tabletop Almost Ready for Purchase

It's unlikely that Steve Jobs and the design team at Apple will get any ideas from this prototype. But I guess anything is possible. Those who criticize the iPad as just a big iPod touch will have a field day on this one - a 58-inch functional iPhone desk that will soon be available for purchase.

To be clear, the photo above is just an illustration - a photo mock-up of what is to come from the people behind Table Connect, who state on their website that "via the Table Connect App you can gain complete control over your iPhone using the multitouch table." In other words, your iPhone (yes, it needs to be jailbroken to work with Table Connect) will let you run all your apps through the 58" multitouch desk surface.

But is such an enormous table-top iPhone practical? Some will say yes. Most will say no. However, all must recognize the potential gaming opportunities that could result from such a monstrosity. I'm all but certain that the eventual video demo of this contraption at work (available in about two more days) will present a wide range of aspects in which the product can be used. And it's an equally safe bet that there will be a buyer for this thing somewhere - we just don't know who and how much they are willing to spend.

No price tag has yet been unveiled for the Table Connect.

Play some game a on 2" screen that your fingers take up most of. I think it would be nice to view my house cameras on a table, but also can show me the time and turn on and off the lights, and maybe pictures of my family.

What's wrong with a desktop computer for the cameras and pictures of your family? Or how about some portraits hanging around the house? How about physically turning off your lights? What about a nice Timex watch to view the time?

You really need an overpriced table to do all of that?
Obviously the person who's going to buy this is going to be pretty rich. I don't think they really care about price or how a desktop is more practical; they just want the novelty of owning such a cool device. No poor man is going to shell out a lot of money for this thing expecting an entire desktop computer replacement..

Of course he can. I never said he couldn't.

Can't I just give out suggestions that would potentially save people money on a potentially overpriced non-essential product?

if you're rich, it won't really matter. It's not like this product is going to begin mass production to sell to households across America. This is just a novelty item.

it is not only for the rich, but the ones that have to have all the technology items that make visitors go WOW!. I rather spend 3 grands in a 55" LED 3D ultra Slim for my bedroom than 500 bucks in clothes..

Would be cool for a business conference table. Would make meetings more fun. Have a cam at each seat for facetime during conf calls.

Microsoft debut a touch table a few years ago and Bill Gates got a little embarrassed when it didn't function quite right for him during the fanfare. It was coffee table sized.
