  • Apple Fixes Compatibility for iLife iOS Apps Ahead of iOS 7 Launch

Apple recently pushed out an update for its iLife line of iOS apps in order to address compatibility and stability issues. The move was made just a week before the company is expected to unveil the newest version of iOS. The recent update brings iMovie to version 1.4.2, GarageBand to version 1.4.1, and iPhoto to version 1.1.1. None of the descriptions for the updates go into much detail on their features beyond saying that the update “addresses compatibility issues,” though the GarageBand update does mention that it “addresses minor issues related to general performance and stability.”

The updates may be tied to Apple’s recently confirmed media event which is scheduled for September 10. Speculators are pointing toward Apple revealing two new versions of the iPhone – one higher-end model, the other a lower-end model with a polycarbonate back – and a final version of iOS 7, which is currently in beta.

For those of you who aren’t fully aware of the changes, the newest version of iOS will be sporting a new design that does away with the skeuomorphic aesthetic seen throughout earlier iterations of the operating system. The recent update could be aimed at ensuring full compatibility with iOS 7 when it rolls out.

All three of the updates are available in the App Store currently. Apple’s iMovie weighs in with a 497 MB download, GarageBand is a 584 MB download and iPhoto is a 151 MB download. Each of the apps come with a $5 price tag. As far as the requirements go, iMovie and iPhoto require a device running iOS 6.0 or higher while GarageBand requires an iOS device running iOS 5.1 or higher.
