CBS News: Which iPhone Sleep Apps Actually Work?
Let's face it. We could all use a better night's sleep. But for many of us, winning the lottery seems more likely than getting a full and rejuvenative 8 hours of shut-eye.
Today, the CDC defines sleep deprivation as an epidemic that affects as many as 70 million Americans. But a new CBS News report this week is reminding us that the solution for our sleeplessness may be as simple as an App Store download.
Dr. Michael Breus
, a psychologist and a specialist in sleep medicine, cited Jawbone Up
and Sleep Genius
as two critical resources for the sleep deprived. While not a sleep-inducing app, Jawbone Up is a wristband and app that tracks how you sleep, move and eat. It then helps users capitalize on that information to feel their best.
Sleep Genius, on the other hand, is a neuroscience- based sleep app that ModMyi first reported about prior to the national acclaim it has recently received in response to its effectiveness and superiority to the largely ineffectual white noise-based apps that populate the App Store.
According to Dr. Breus, there are several different app and product categories to consider when trying to find the best non-medicinal technology to solve your sleep deprivation. Dr. Breus highlighted some of these categories during his fascinating segment on CBS This Morning, which is now available to watch online here
