  • Apple Set to Unveil Next-Gen iPhone on September 10

According to the folks over at AllThingsD, Apple is set to unveil its next iPhone on September 10, citing sources who claim to have knowledge of the event. Though the date of the announcement has been revealed, itís unclear whether the event will focus primarily on the upcoming iPhone 5S or if it will include Appleís rumored low cost iPhone.

For those of you who are unaware, the low-cost iPhone is aimed at emerging markets and is said to share quite a few similarities with the iPhone 5. Prototype photos and leaked parts have depicted a similar shape and size, though the phone is said to have rounded edges, a slightly thicker form factor, and a polycarbonate shell that is offered in various colors. The most recent rumors for said device have suggested a price tag of $490 for the device, which is in line with the iPhone 4 pricing when carrier subsidies are taken into account.

Appleís upcoming iPhone 5S is expected to feature a design similar to that of the iPhone 5 but with a number of improvements. It is also rumored to include a fingerprint sensor, an upgraded 12-megapixel camera with a dual-LED flash, and iOS 7. Itís likely that iOS 7 will make its public debut after the announcement or when the next-gen iPhone is released.

Though OS X Mavericks is scheduled to be released in the fall as well, AllThingsD doesnít expect the software to be debuted at the September 10 event.

Hopefully quad core processor too! On the fence whether they'll stick with the dual core setup or give it more grunt...

I think last year they said something like this and it turned out to be October. Or maybe that was the year before.

I hear what you're saying & I'm on 6.1JB. I theme create & the obstacles posed with iOS7 are huge. That being said there are a lot of good stuff from what I've tested in iOS7. Sure the UI is whack but unfortunately that's just the way it is unless we stay on the older firmware.Im sure once the JB is out & we can tweak things iOS6 & below will become distant memories...well it's how I'm looking at things...glass half full styles.

If the 5S full delivers it could be a very worthwhile iphone.

Don't find the prospect of a 5S exciting, just the same as the 5 with some minor updates won't bother using my trade in, however the 5C could be good, maybe able to tempt some people who went over the Android back to Apple due to the low cost of the handset

Until there is a jailbreak for iOS7 staying on iOS 6, just don't like how it looks on a black iPhone

It'll be fun to watch the internet rage if the "next gen" iPhone is the plastic cased iPhone 5C.

I like that ... "Next-gen" iPhone - like it's gunna be any different from the last three.

But in fairness, the i-4 is a beautiful and iconic design - and if you're gunna get stuck somewhere in the past, that's a pretty good place to do it.

For the first time since its debut, I am officially not excited about the next iPhone. Known for incremental updates at this point, there is no WOW factor here. We pretty much know what to expect. I am sure there will be one or two things revealed that we may or may not have been in the know about. Other than that..same phone that is faster and takes better pics. I'll stick with my 5 for now.

If only they'd do a 4.7" iPhone - I'd be so up for it.
Only then will I upgrade from my beloved i-4.
I've even stopped upgrading my Android phone, as there's been nothing released that's better than the HTC Evo-3D ... and that came out 2 years ago.
If I had my own iPhone or HTC skunkworks, I could create phones that would stop Samsung dead in its tracks.

The iPhone 4 is about $490 without subsidies. Thatís without carrier subsidies taken into account.

Stuck with the 3G for 2 years and now a 4 for 2 1/2 years... I really wanna like the next gen... If not I will keep rolling with the 4 until another yet refresh... I might as well wait, if I want to keep my unlimited data I have to pay full price for a phone... Would like to stick with apple... I have a lot of patience and am still satisfied with my super tweaked 4... I keep dreaming of an apple device that comes stock with more than 160gigs... The reason apple has me hooked at all is because of iTunes, iPods and the integral part they have played in the past 10 years of my life... The day my iPhone can locally store every CD I have (like the 160gig iPod did for a few months) and every iTunes purchase, well, then that my friends will be a glorious day for I... Ramble ramble ramble dot dot dot 😎☀🌴...

*Typo for you English critics: another yet should have been typed yet another

Why do people keep comparing the iPhone 4 price to the "cheap" iPhone5C? The 5C will have better specs than the iPhone 4. Why is this so hard to understand?

So I'm thinking they will discontinue iPhone 4/4s and put iPhone 5c in place. And have iPhone 5 ect. Now remember they did buy out a fingerprint scanner under the home button. So I think it will be just like the 4s where Siri was the big feature that is all.
