Even the world's most profitable company can't buy its way out of this dilemma... yet.
Despite wanting to distance itself as much as possible from tech rival Samsung, Apple only has two choices at this point: build a ton of iPads with Samsung's help, or don't build a ton of iPads and lose a whole lot of revenue and tablet market share along the way.
Although neither is an ideal option, the former is certainly the lesser of two evils. And that seems to be Apple's logical choice. As it turns out, Apple is accelerating its reliance upon Samsung for iPad displays and the numbers are there to prove it.
Samsung was expected to fade as a major Apple component supplier. But that's not happening. It is, rather, gaining on major Apple display supplier LGD.... Samsung supplied more 9.7-inch panels to Apple than LG Display (LGD) in April and June, according to a research note from NPD DisplaySearch.
