  • Facebook Said to Bring 15 Second TV-Style Advertisements to its News Feed

The popular social media platform, Facebook, is planning to sell 15-second TV-style commercials starting sometime later this year according to a new report from Bloomberg. The largest social networking site with 1.15 billion members could sell these 15 second advertisements for $1 million to $2.5 million a day according to sources who asked not to be identified. The ads are said to appear in news feeds and can possibly help companies shift their ad spending from TV towards the internet.

For those of you who are worried about Facebook becoming too advertisement heavy, you don’t have to fret. Users are said to see no more than three of the spots in the feed per day and advertisers would be able to limit ads based on age and gender. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has allegedly “pushed back” the date for these ads to start at least twice since it would turn off many users. Bloomberg’s report started the following:

With Facebook, the idea would be to capitalize on the millions of users who actively check the site on a daily basis, including during the prime-time hours coveted by television advertisers. As of last quarter, 61 percent of Facebook members were using the site daily -- a number that has risen despite management predictions that it would decline.

“Every night, 88 million to 100 million people are actively using Facebook during prime-time TV hours in the United States alone,” Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg said last week on a conference call to discuss second-quarter results.
A move such as this one would likely step up the competition with other social networking sites including the main rival, Twitter and even others such as YouTube, which offers video advertisements and banners across its site.

Is this something you are ready for?

If this hits mobile devices I'll be pretty much done with Facebook. there's no way I'm wasting my limited data to stream their ads.

Exactly. I haven't seen a single ad on Facebook and I don't intend to start now.

No kidding, I'm not watching any advertisements, but from all the user data they've collected I wonder what ads they will show.

And they wonder why Facebook sucks so much. Without an adblocker its just ads and every now and then a friend posts.

Except for the fact that I use it primarily on my phone and tablet.

Bottom line is Facebook already has too many ads and "sponsored posts", it's getting to the point that it's unusable as it is.

And then there's the 3 per day, is that 3 per user or 3 per device per day or 3 per device per user per day?

Eventually it will get too bloated and too corporate, and then some young hip college kids will come out with a fresh, clean social network that will eventually take over.

      And the cycle continues.
