  • Report: iPhone 5 To Deliver Few Modifications Over iPhone 4

According to the research, findings, and a healthy dose of speculation from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo with Concord Securities, Apple's long-awaited iPhone 5 may ultimately delver only a few, less than groundbreaking improvements over the 4th generation Apple smartphone.

Based on what Apple's overseas supply partners tell him, the iPhone 5 will not bestow an all-new design or anything - at least from an aesthetic standpoint - that is radically different from the previous four generations of the device. Kuo says the new phone will deliver only "slight modifications" from the last generation. In other words, expect the same body and retina display you already have.

It should also be noted that almost everyone - Kuo included - has stopped alluding to Near Field Communication (NFC) technology as a possible new attribute of the iPhone 5. NFC would make mobile payments (transactions via smartphone at the point of sale) possible at participating retailers across the US. As it now appears, Apple is once again putting off mobile payments for a future generation product or device.

All told, the guaranteed iPhone 5 modifications alluded to are those we've already been anticipating - an 8 megapixel rear camera and a Qualcomm baseband (GSM and CDMA). Kuo alleges that the radical overhaul of design and functionality will likely come with the 6th generation iPhone (can you believe we're talking about the 6th before the 5th has even turned up?). Still, the most interesting aspect of Kuo's report is that all signs now point to a September iPhone 5 release.

Whatever the case, I will be waiting for a jailbreak before buying any iPhone.

The iPhone 4 is 10 months old. The iPhone 5 will have equal or better specs than all the current top Android phones on the market today.
What I meant was that the design of the phone will not change, but the guts will. More ram, possibly the CPU, a better low quality camera...just like the 3G/3GS transition. Apple will find it hard to compete with Android phone specs. There are just too many of them. They will continue to build around iOS and offer incremental upgrades in hardware.

Yep, you're thinking outside of the smart box, alight. The PlayBook? More like the GayBook. Have fun with ZERO apps, no email, no calendar and since you don't have a Blackberry, you can't use BB Connect. I guess you can watch all your iPad movies on it, after you convert them....

Quit making fun of the Brits.

*EDIT: BTW, since the American English language is a spin-off of his native English, perhaps we're the ones misspelling it?!

Wasn't gonna get the i5 anyways... Everyone knows it'll probably be like the 3G -> 3GS update. Yes I get that the 3GS had a whole new inside, but as far as I can see the i4 is as good as I want for another year, why shell out $200-$400 for .5 seconds faster? Plus the i6 probably will have a lot in store for us.

Is anyone actually surprised that the improvements are minimal and that there are relatively no cosmetic changes that we know of. Kinda like the 3G to 3GS changes.

I understand why some people want a bigger screen but I do not want to carry a larger phone in my pocket. I don't need a major revamp of the phone, just faster speeds and a better camera wouldn't hurt either.

G.O.W 3 and the iPhone 5 in the same month! I nominate September as month of the year.
