Within hours of the emergence of reports out of China that suggest Apple's "plastic iPhone" will bear the name "iPhone 5C" when released to consumers, cases purportedly designed for this device turned up on Amazon.
Meet the Elago S5C Slim Fit 2 cases. Available now for preorder, we're told these cases are made only for the rumored plastic smartphone being manufactured as we speak on the other side of the world.
Curiously, the cases are expected to be in stock and ready for shipment next month.
Not surprisingly, some are wondering at this hour is the anticipated release of the cases (between August 23-26) could coincide with the formal unveiling of Apple's iPhone 5C. After all, for months we've been hearing that the plastic low-cost entry-level model may arrive in late summer or early fall.
Of course, the cases by themselves aren't evidence of any low-priced iPhone. Manufacturers often develop cases and other products ahead of time hoping to cash in if and when the rumored device hits the market. They also gamble that their products will fit or be compatible with the actual device.
