  • limera1n 10/11/10 jailbreaks all devices?

Alright, I chatted with geohot earlier today but was sworn to secrecy - although it seems the news made its way out anyway, so geohot said go ahead and cover it here.

geohot is prepped to launch limera1n (we covered the possibility of such a software months ago) on 10/11/10 - the 1 year anniversary of the release of blackra1n.

p0sixninja, who's work on SHAtter has been vital in making it happen, has already set an ETA of 10/10/10 at 10:10:10AM for greenpois0n, his jailbreak for all A4 devices (iPhone 4, iPad, and iPod Touch 4G). geohot now has returned from "retirement" and announced a release the day after greenpois0n's slated release date - with a jailbreak that would work on /all/ iDevices.

The two jailbreaks use separate exploits, although greenpois0n uses a new one, SHAtter, while geohot has used the exploit in limera1n before (and yah, it still works). geohot hasn't made an official announcement anywhere, so there's still the off chance someone will randomly talk him out of releasing, but it's looking pretty solid. There is some talk of p0sixninja even using geohot's exploit in greenpois0n, saving SHAtter for a future jailbreak, but it doesn't look like p0sixninja is interested in it, as it'd push back release dates even more.

So... either way, looks like all you folks out there waiting for Game Center, AirSharing, AND Cydia... you'll get your cake (pie) come Sunday and Monday. And apparently you'll need a big plate.

If Apple had that approach (of releasing half baked products), I don't think they'll be where they are today, plus if every jailbreak released to the public followed this path, I'm not sure anyone would want a JB (I remember the early days when the risk of bricking was higher...now every Tom, **** and twat wants to JB). Why am I wasting time trying to make a bigot see reason???
Comparing GEO to a multi billion dollar corporation isn't very logical. Remember GEO is not getting paid to develop jailbreaks and you have to appreciate his rapid effort in fixing the bugs. Of course you would expect perfection from Apple because you have to pay allot of money for the iPhone.

Agreed, but then that brings in the question of ethics...the first JB for the iOS 4 was properly ironed out prior to public release as such no one ever had any issues with it...that's exactly the same code of ethics that CDT were following...these guys all do a great job no doubt, and have consistently tried to differentiate themselves from the callous bunch...

Can you begin to imagine what would have happened if people's idevices had been bricked in their numbers by lime??
I'm happy for those it's worked for, but for the others who are experiencing issues, what's going to be of the confidence people now have regarding JB'ing?? Just like when people had untold woes with rock...

FYI the chance of limera1n actuallly bricking a device is like 0.000000000000000000001 as iphone's hardware causes it to be 99.9% unbrickable.. Geo hasn't included any malicious code so you won't be risking the safety of your device at all. I know the jb is "half baked" but we have to remember that Geo is the original iPhone hacker and I think this puts him in a much more authoritative ( Again this is just my opinion so don't be trollin' on me! I think all of you people saying your gna wait for greenpoison are pathetic, saying it's buggy and will brick your device it's all BS! y not give it a go and then use gp when it's released to see what you prefer! Honestly you
Moan for weeks when the dev team are taking long, then when THE most respectable person (MY OPINION!!!) in the jb community releases a jb the day before gp you still whine and moan?!?! Seriously!

Now I've read through the whole thread, and I personally think many posts here are just pure BS. I haven't been here long cause I've been against iPhones until I actually tried one. But back on topic. I've been on the Sony Ericsson scene for a few years working with different kind of mods and I know what hard work there is behind the things that both CDT and Geo has done.

And even if Geo released limera1n with the untethered exploit from comex w/o his approval, it's still good work. He got an unstable release and it seems he'd made it quite stable?

Anyhow, I thank both CDT and Geo ! They're both giving the community stuffs that many of us take for granted, which it isn't. So stop flaming ANY of them.

At this point the only way to restore order is to nuke the threads from orbit.

      Just to be sure.

I didn't just quote his post there was a reply with it...must've been a bug or something...sent in a double post from my iPhone, but for some reason it didn't make it...you can see there's two posts from me...one immediately after the other...just lost in the ether.

A few question's and yes I have read almost all 800 post give or take 200. I have a new bootrom 3GS JB with Jailbreakme to 4.01. I would like to go to 4.1 and preserve a baseband that can be unlocked and yes I have read not to update if I need a carrier unlock, BUT. I have used Tinyumbrella to save SHSH's. On my IP4 I used tinyumbrella to preserve my baseband (which worked), but some post I have read have stated that tinyumbrella only works with IP4 not the 3gs. Is this correct? I have also read that a custom 4.1 ISPW can be used to upgrade my 3GS to 4.1 and preserve the baseband. Is this correct? If so, where would be a trusted depository for the ISPW. Thanks again in advance..

Is anyone else having problems loading Cydia after they JB? I didn't have any problems yesterday, but since this afternoon, I am having major problems loading Cydia. I'd rather not downgrade and re-JB, this time with Jailbreakme.

Wow. Not sure how I made it through all 800+ posts of this thread.

I don't care who did what. I just want to update my 3GS to 4.1 and still have a j/b.

As always, some people take the Internet too seriously.

if you upgrade you will loose your unlock, jailbreaking should be no problem thou.

so if your phone isn't on the carrier its intended to be on sit tight until a new ultrasnow comes out.

So you've read correctly, TU can only preserve basebands of the IPhone 4, not the 3GS.

Next, since you have the new bootrom 3GS there currently isn't a way for you to create a custom firmware right now. According to Musclenerd, Pwnagetool will be updated to incorporate this new exploit, though how long that will take is unknown. (I have zero idea if Snowbreeze would help you here but I've had nothing but problems with that program)

This is all kind of crazy right now, limera1n greenpois0n and SHAtter all competing! What happened to people like geohotz and the dev team working together so there is only one JB exploit at a time! Now Apple is going to catch all three exploits and patch them! Just get along guys! You used to collaborate! START DOING IT AGAIN GAAAA!
