  • Greenpois0n To Be Released This Sunday!

That's right! The developers behind the newest jailbreak, greenpois0n, have informed the world of it's estimated arrival date of October 10th, 2010.

Developer Joshua Hill, aka p0sixninja, recently tweeted "Things have progressed to the point where we don't expect anymore roadblocks. ETA for greenpois0n is 10/10/10 at 10:10:10AM".

While it's important to remember that this is only an estimated release date and our friend chpwn puts it into decent perspective "Please note that an ETA is, by definition, an estimate. There may still be delays, although we will try for there not to be any." Chpwn has been working with Saurik on improving Cydia, but by the sounds of it, it will not be ready to be released alongside the greenpois0n release, but it will be something else to look forward to after jailbreaking.

It will be important to watch out for fakes in the meantime, and make sure that you follow us here for the release. The servers will more than likely take a huge hit, and hopefully we can arrange something like we did with jailbreakme.com to act as a mirror. Keep your eyes peeled.

While it is not confirmed yet, we are hoping to see an untethered jailbreak for every iDevice currently available, however don't be disappointed if its not yet untethered.

Get your iPods, iPhones, iPads and AppleTV ready for this sundays "funday".

    Sunday - greenpois0n - Be there. 10/10/10 10:10:10AM GMT

Edit Poseidon: This will only work on the iPhone 4, iPad and iPod Touch 4G. It does /not/ support any older devices as they do not contain the A4 chip that contains the exploit.

Secondly this is not an unlock and will not help those that have updated to 4.0.2 or 4.1.

This news is great. I just took my first plunge into idevices with an iPad and iPod touch. Seems like I'm gonna like this scene. Hope I can contribute one day.

Everyone asking people to be grateful to these guys for doing this is like asking us to be grateful for someone coming up to you and handing you $100

Maybe geohot will come back and make something that helps the entire community

i don't post much on this forum but i do read all the updates and threads. and i was able to sift though the loads of informational garbage and was able to deduce that the shatter exploit was only applicable for devices with the new a4 chip awhile ago.

I'm going to be grateful to the Dev team like they gave me a 100 bucks because a jailbreak unlocks functionality on the iphone that is worth way more than a 100bucks to me. and the best part is they don't require you to give them 100 bucks.

its boo-fkin-hoo for the rest of us but the owners of those devices should have known before they bought or upgrade their 3g/3gs etc.

so much ungratefulness maybe you shouldn't use their jailbreak if they eventually do release one for your phone and maybe keep hoping someday geohot comes back and does it.

ill just rely on comex to come threw eventually, who ill gladly donate to for his jailbreak. even though i dont have too

also i made a thread 3 weeks back trying to confirm my thought that shatter only worked for devices with the A4 chip.. but a large amount of people argued with me that i was wrong

Blows me away that all of the devteam and others even still do this. All the ungrateful whiny people that have joined this community in the past year or so really ruined a good thing. I wouldn't give you guys jack after what's been said here, various other sites and on twitter. Buncha ungrateful, self centered children you lot are. I'm beginning to wonder which member is going to slag off this community because of thieves and whiny children.

So since this will be a permanent JB for iPhone 4 because of exploit on the A4, I'm going to assume that any unlocks made for 4.1 and above will not be? So unlockers will still have to be careful/worry before upgrading to the newest iOS?

Yes, unlockers should always be very wary of firmware updates.

The ungratefulness here in this thread is just plain stupid. And people wonder why Geohot left. Keep this **** up and all the hackers will stop doing what they do. Remember:

      They do this for free.

      They owe you nothing.

      You can't do any better.

Reflect on those 3 statements, and maybe, you'll just STFU.

No one is complaining about the iphone dev team.... its the chronic dev team.. when has it ever taken this long for a tool to be made and released and with such a huge lack of info leading up to its release and then to have it only work for some peoples devices

if they dont want these kind of complaints then all they had to do from the get go was say that it will only work for said devices!

You mean people like "Jody Sanders?" LOL Funny how his site says he can already jb/unlock 4.1, how is he selling software when it doesn't even exist yet (for the iPhone 4 anyways)?

I've explained this before. They do owe the community something. By "they" I don't mean Chronic or Dev Team or Geohot or any of them. Essentially, I mean Saurik. In the early days of jailbreak yes, it was done for free, nobody owed anyone anything, etc etc etc. But at a certain point between then and now Saurik created an app store in Cydia. This is the turning point. He setup a system for 3rd parties to collect payment for applications. As soon as the first payment was made then it changed the game and yes, the community is owed a jailbreak. It is two sided, first the users that purchased apps on the jailbreak are owed a jailbreak so they can use that which they purchased. Second the developers are owed a jailbreak so that they can provide support for that which they sold. Think of it as if Apple disabled all app support on the iPhone. Every dev, every customer would be in an uproar and there would probably be lawsuits. It is the same here in that Saurik set up a system for commerce on the iPhone. There is now a responsibility to allow the support resulting from that to continue. The dev teams, while they themselves don't owe the community are the ones who have the knowledge to make that happen. But even if all the dev teams quit, there would still be a necessity to have the jailbreak. Not a want, but a necessity.

(FYI, I just joined in on this thread so I'm not defending any previous posts I have made as this is my first post on this thread. Just explaining why a jailbreak is owed to the community and explaining who ulitmately owes it/who is actually able to make it happen.)
