  • Following the Closure of Google Reader, Google Confirms the Upcoming Death of Latitude

It wasn’t long ago since Google put an end to the popular Google Reader, and although some are still in the midst of recovering from the unfortunate event, Google has issued even more bad news… the future closure of Google Latitude.

One of Google Latitude’s main features is the ability to see where your friends are on a map similarly to how Apple’s Find My Friends application works. The application made it easy to spot when your friends were nearby, assuming they wanted to you, making it easy to get together and hang out with them.

When Google closes Latitude, users will no longer be able to use the application or third-party applications associated with Google Latitude; they will no longer be able to see what friends are around them and their friend lists will be deleted permanently. Google also notes that the feature will not be coming to Google Maps.

The Google Latitude application is still currently free in Apple’s App Store, but Google plans to remove it as soon as Latitude is officially retired. The service will be retired on August 9th, 2013.

My guess is that they will incorporate a similar feature into the Waze app... or create something completely different combining the two of them.
