  • Jack Torrents Accepted on App Store
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0U8EIieY5M&feature=player_embedded]YouTube - IS Drive - Available on the iPhone App Store[/ame]

Jack Torrents, an app for managing downloads on the torrent service of ImageShack.com, is now available on the App Store under the name "IS Drive." Either as part of the recent liberalization of the approval process, or because reviewers genuinely missed the fact that it could be used for BitTorrent downloads, this is the first torrent-related app to make it to the App Store.

Apps with similar functionality - such as Drivetrain and µTorrent - have been rejected in the past by Apple. "Because this category of applications is often used for the purpose of infringing third party rights," read an email to the developers of µTorrent, "we have chosen to not publish this type of application to the App Store." As a result, both apps ended up on Cydia, as did TorrentTRAK, a remote control app for the desktop Transmission BitTorrent client.

Derek Kepner's Jack Torrents app has also been available on Cydia for some time. In addition to controlling file transfers on the ImageShack Torrent Drive service, the app can also be adapted to manage downloads on torrent sites like IsoHunt and Mininova (though this functionality has been hidden on IS Drive), and can be used to add .torrent links found on the Web to the ImageShack download queue. Derek decided to submit Jack Torrents to the App Store after reading the updated approval guidelines. "I always had the thought that if I didn't call the app a 'torrent client', Apple would probably let it through the review process," he said in an interview with TorrentFreak. "After all, there is no real torrenting happening on the client side. It's not a torrent client. It's an ImageShack Drive client."

IS Drive is $4.99 on the App Store. Subscribers to any ImageShack package, including the $8 month-by-month one, are not subject to the 2-active-torrent-at-once restriction applied to free accounts.

Torrents can be quite useful sometimes even though they are usually super slow. I don't think I will be getting this app anytime soon, I think I will just stick with ctorrent.

Everone talking about torrents, and how they r illegal, or dangerous... R either just stupid or dumb. I'm sorry, but it's a fact that many many people "steal" content, including a lot of u people condoning it.

It's a fact of life, deal with it. If you don't protect your belongings, it is your fault if they get stolen... I see no grey area in this subject, it's black or white.

And for the people saying torrents r dangerous and u get viruses from them....seriously?? R u my dad or someone who knows nothing about computers?? Look for a torrent with A LOT OF SEEDERS! That's it, that's all u have to do, and u will always be safe.

So sick of people acting like they r better than the next. I guarantee all of u people that r bashing the people who actually have the balls to admit they pirate some content, have pirated content in some way, shape, or form themselves. Stop trying to impress or appease the mods, it's pathetic and obvious. Rant over.

Check the review for this app guys.
After all the talks about app piracy on twitter for the last few days, as well as in the IRC chats, reviews like this makes "me" and I'm sure few others, reconsider cracked apps for the sake of try then buy.
      This is just #Epic Fail

No. I had to hide that feature for the App Store. I'll bring it back. Give it time.

By the way, please leave a review if you like the app. (To help balance out the reviews from morons who didn't read the app description.)

      Thanks,

I don't download porn. I pray to get the real deal.

So downloading torrent files isn't pirating? No you GFTO. I'm not trolling as it seems the majority of you disagree but torrents isn't cool either.

You don't even need a Mac for secure torrent downloading. Just common sense. Stay away from sketchy torrent sites and you'll be fine.

Hell, there are a bunch of safe torrent communities that provide virus-free torrents for Mac & PC users. And if you're internet connection isn't crappy, you'll get great speeds.

You never get direct links on msj or c4m... Almost always annoying rapidshare bs. IMO it's worse to pay for piracy (aka rapidshare premium). Sure rapidshare isn't condoning piracy, but seriously, what else does anyone use it for? Filesharing? Get an iDisk or dropbox.

OK back to the subject of this app.... lol doesn't look like the people that bought it are to happy with it at this time because of the price for it and also you have to pay for a subscription as well.... so far the rating is 1 star.
