  • AT&T Continues Rapid Summer Expansion of 4G LTE to U.S. Cities

In continuing their efforts to expand their 4G LTE network coverage, AT&T has added another major handful of United States markets to their 4G LTE coverage map Tuesday morning. Tuesday's handful of lucky markets include:

    • Atlantic City, New Jersey
    • Batavia, New York
    • Beckley, West Virginia
    • Bremerton, Washington
    • Cape Cod, Massachusetts
    • Cape Girardeau, Missouri
    • Chico, California
    • Corinth, Mississippi
    • Greenwood, Mississippi
    • Grenada, Mississippi
    • Homosassa Springs, Florida
    • Lafayette, Louisiana
    • Lawton, Oklahoma
    • Midland, Texas
    • Milledgeville , Georgia
    • Moses Lake, Washington
    • New Iberia, Louisiana
    • New Ulm, Minnesota
    • Palatka, Florida
    • Pine Bluff, Arkansas
    • Sherman-Denison, Texas
    • Silverthorne, Colorado
    • St. Thomas, Virgin Islands
    • Valdosta, Georgia
    • Victoria, Texas
    • Yakima, Washington

4G LTE offers a theoretical download speed of around 100Mb/s; however, due to the unfortunate realities of network congestion, the download speeds when connected to 4G LTE in real life situations are more or less around 20-60Mb/s.

Many of Apple's latest devices, including the iPhone 5, iPad Mini, and iPad with retina display can take advantage of 4G LTE, as can many competing smartphones and tablets.

I haven't heard about any Verizon expansion... Sure they have good LTE coverage but its slower than AT&T 3G 75% of the time. I'm ready to switch back to AT&T since they're actually trying to improve their network.

They don't send out regular press releases on new or expanded market launches. Most of the time, you have to look on the coverage maps towards the end of the month for updates.
Also, I'm sure your market is different, but where I'm at and have travelled to, Verizon's LTE outpaced at&t's 3G network 10-15 times over.

I'm in Virginia, how about you?
I've been averaging 1.5 Mbps.... Pitiful
Sometimes it is actually good, around 10-25 Mbps, but that's rare

Verizon already covers like 90% of the nations population. AT&T is so far behind its ridiculous.

Att might be behind but I can't tell you how many times I talk and surf at the same time on att.

AT&T is behind in GSM LTE because Verizon took a short cut to GSM LTE. Their fallback network is 3G CDMA. Its a garbage technology. AT&T went GSM HSPA+ then GSM LTE 4G. AT&T has been using GSM technology for many years. Verizon has recently been using GSM so technically Verizon is far behind in technology. Verizon's short cut limits what their devices can do including slower data speed.

Everyone's experience is different. I love my iPad on Verizon's LTE!!! But my AT&T iPhone on EDGE (same location) not so much... So from my perspective, AT&T IS behind. No talking and surfing at the same time, in my area. Heck, no surfing at all, yet still forced to have a useless data plan.
