  • AT&T Adds 7 New U.S. Cities to Their Expanding 4G LTE Coverage

AT&T, as a part of a summertime goal, has been expanding their 4G LTE cellular coverage in the United States rapidly to get as many subscribers in range of the ultra-fast wireless speeds as possible.

The carrier has Wednesday afternoon announced that seven additional locations in the United States can now tap into the power of AT&T's 4G LTE cellular network. Those lucky seven places include:

    • Brainerd Lakes, Minnesota
    • Grand Rapids, Minnesota
    • Hot Springs, Arkansas
    • Jackson County, Georgia
    • Minot, North Dakota
    • Mount Vernon, Ohio
    • Visalia, California

4G LTE offers a theoretical download speed of around 100Mb/s; however, due to the unfortunate realities of network congestion, the download speeds on 4G LTE are more or less closer to 20-60Mb/s.

Many of Apple's latest devices, including the iPhone 5, iPad Mini, and iPad with retina display can take advantage of 4G LTE data speeds.

Does anyone else on AT&T w/ 4G LTE feel like its slower these last few days??? I think 3G is running better than 4G right now....

I think it's because they are still trying to work out the kinks in it. my speeds stay around the 20-30MB range and when they repair or test anything at night that's when it drops to around 4-10MB but that's only happened 3 times in the last 2 months.

I don't know about you but my speeds dropped from 55/15mbs to 25/5mbs around 3 days ago, which is back to launch speeds from October 2012.

Could be repairs, could be other carriers prepping their LTE launch. (Hopefully T-Mobile)

That's around the timeframe I was talking about. I'm just concerned if it might be a congestion issue

      Mine's been a bit slower, around 15/5mbps, normally it's 30/15mbps.

How do I get 3G? All I see is LTE and sometimes 4G.

Be patient, it's coming! I could only get LTE at work too ever since I got my iP5 last year, but a few weeks ago it was finally expanded to where I live and I get 4-5 bars consistently so I'm happy!

If your on AT&T then it will be displayed as 4G and not 3G. Although it is in actually 3G

though the news is quite predictable to me and i know soon it will cover all to its rapidly growing range .. the same expansion of the technology will also be helpful in providing a full fledged performance out of it .. which is seeming slower now a day..

Are you sure? Why wouldnt it just show 3G if it was on the 3G network?

Woot! Minot North Dakota!! Great Falls Montana can't be far behind! They've already done Cheyenne Wyoming.

It'll show 4G since they have an HSPA+ network, which is technically 4G, but is the same speed as 3G. It will say LTE when you have "true" 4G.
